Some sort of gurnard is the guess.. but not too sure.. we released it anyway.

Make good eating too, if ya can be bothered cleaning 'em, very small fillet yield though, and be bloody careful of those spikes.......

Lost Gurnard
Ads the old man got one of those in the inlet in Walpole about 10 years ago. I was there or I wouldn't have believed it. So the depth of water blows that theory away. Maybe one very lost gurnard of some kind.

this fish is common in france. wich name is galinette or rouget grondin. when it is out of water, it make a strange sound like grrrrr!!!
it s delicious and beautifull fish which live between 150 feet to 600 feet.
you can catch it frequently with bottom taping jigging or with natural bait...

yeah gurnad. caught a few of them in NZ many years ago .the local kiwis i was fishing with rated them and they went in the esky
always in it just the depth that varies
