Weekend at Port Gregory
Submitted by Kingfisher549 on Wed, 2009-11-11 14:43
Spent the weekend fishing the mouth of Hutt River just south of Port Gregory. A deep channel and low swell greated us as we drove onto the beach.
Within minutes of casting the first line Herring and dart were caught followed by tailor as the sun began to set. A Spotted Mackeral was caught just on dark before we settled into a long night of fishing.
Around 10.30 one of the rods buckled over and after a 15 min fight a 14kg Mulloway was landed. later in the night several sharks were hooked but not landed as well as some large rays that headed for Africa.

I recently watched a FWA episode where they fished
that spot. What a perfect Mullloway spot that is.

Hutt River
Perfect spot on a good day, deep channel at your feet, open deep water out the back, plenty of space and you never know what will bite next. seven species without trying on the weekend fishing from 4.00pm until 9.00am the next morning with a sleep in the middle.
But if the weed and wind come in sit on the beach and just enjoy the place.
