personally for me I'd run the big Pakula on the short corner a few metres behind the bird teaser, then the lumo Richter on the long corner (about 10m further back than the short corner), both on the 24kg outfits.

I have never used outriggers myself so can't comment on how the lures will swim on them but I'd have the black Soft Oscar and the purple/white Oscar next back on 15kg and the pink Oscar Junior shotgun on the 15kg/1000m outfit.

If I were you I'd get a lumo Soft Oscar as well, I got plenty of fish on it last year. Distances back will depend on your boat but as a guide my bird teaser was about 5m behind, with the short corner a few metres behind that. The rest of the lures stagger back, but I never had my furtherest more than about 50m back.

I was running a short corner, a long corner and a shotgun and got nearly all my fish on the short or long corner lures, either lumo, pink or black Oscar on the long and a blue/silver Williamson on the short. That's what worked for me, I'll have my fingers crossed for you.

I would set it up as follows:

• The big black Pakula on the short corner (24kg)
• The 502/506 [black] soft oscar on the long corner (24kg)
• The white/purple soft oscar on the short rigger (15kg/600m)
• The lumo jnr oscar on the long rigger (15kg/600m) 
• The 46/46 [pink] soft grassy on the shotgun (15kg/1000m)

For us last year, the lumo soft oscar on the long rigger was smashed every time. But then for others (PaulG), the 502/506 was the lure being hit the most (unsure in what position).

Do you think running 5 outfits and 2 teasers would be too much for three people on board? 

Also can you run a deep diver in the spread for a who or tuna or is it better just too stick to the pushers? My main goal is to catch my first billfish but wouldn't mind a few fin as well.

Never really done much trolling for billies so any other advice would be much appreciated.

then run it on the shotgun. And if it was me, I'd run a xmas tree rather than a swimming lure for tuna.

Personally I would forget the shotgun and run a spread of four with 2 teasers. Just remember that one person will be driving, one person "fighting" the fish and that leaves one person to reel in 3 or 4 outfits and 2 teasers until the driver has stopped gunning it and can help clear the spread.

My boat worked well at 6.5 to 7.5kts trolling speed but on calm days I had to maybe push up to 8kts to get the lures working, on rougher days dropped to sometimes 6kts.
If I was going to run a diver in there too I'd pull out the shotgun and replace it with a X-rap or Classic Bluewater run short between the teasers. My experience with Halco's was they tended to pull out at those speeds (mind you I was running 5m or crazy deeps). I only caught 2 wahoo and half a dozen or so YFT in over 200hrs of trolling and 33 billfish captures, but I never did have a diver out.
As for 5 lines and 2 teasers, I ran 3 lines and 1 teaser on my own and had no probs, just make sure each person knows their role in lcearing the spread. I always kept revs up upon hookup and cleared the spread and teaser, and only then grabbed the rod with the fish on it and slowed down.
Probably the biggest tip I got (from Adam) was to NOT slow down after hooking up. It serves 2 purposes- help keep the line tight and helps get the fish out of the spread. And when fighting I never took the boat out of gear, to once again help keep the line tight. If you PM me your email address I'll send you some stuff.

Some very good advice there fella's as i too am a virgin to running a spread of lures so the two teasers a shotgun and a short and long corner sound like a good spread for me without outriggers.

Now to get some more pushers and learn to rig them up and some skipping gars

this is as complicated as my spread got.

Jmo but by running the two together you are really trying to hedge your bets so to speak and whilst there is nothing wrong with that you may not be getting the best presentation / action out of either by doing so.  Given the selection of lures I would run the same pattern as Huggy has suggested but if I was to put a diver in the mix I would run it short down the middle rather than on shotgun.

ok thanks tim ... ive been wondering on the same question but most of mine are soft oscars .. i'll only be running a 3 spread tho .. so short corner will be black the next will be lumo and shotgun will be blue over pink. (well thats my starting point anyway)

get some green colour out there .picked up most of our bills in gamex with greenies and or ice packulas.the comp was won with all small 8inch chrome jet heads at 8 to 10 knts .if the fish dives close to the boatdont be scared to back the drag off a teeny bit and drive off the fish so your line is at about 45dgs then turn his head up the water colum and wind him up .when they get straight under ya youll never get him up so drive off them youll be surprised hope ya get a heap
p.s the pinks didnt get a look at which surprised all
