sockeye?
Looks like your having a great season reaper. is the sockeye a slang name for salmon of something different. By cool to see what lures your tempting them with. I would think they'd go hard in that skinny water!?

Sockeye
that is the actual type of fish that is and that was by far not the piece of water he was caught in it was further to the right where you cant see in knee to thigh high water
but looking directlly behind me in that picture is where we walk across to get there and that isnt the shallowest of water either gets waist deep in spots
as for the lures well you prolly wont believe this but here it goes and trust me i can prove it
i use an 80lb braided main line just because and a small chunk of fishing lead for wight from that i have a swivel attached and to that i have up to 7 feet of 25lb mono to wich i have a 3ott barbless hook and a small bit of colored wool up where the hook gets tied to the line the wool is usually green in color

this is kinda how it looks except the lead is abouve the swivel and attached to the braided line not hanging free and where the beads are abouve the hook it should be wool

looking for a real pic of what we always use :)
this is very close

its hard to find a pic cause we do it just a slight bit different to avoid snags and line twisting

Hey Reaper Nice stuff on the
Hey Reaper
Nice stuff on the Sockeye....I did a bit of salmon fishing last yeear in Vancouver and we got a few Coho and a nice Chinook.....Coho were great to eat.
Certainly fishing in Australia is MUCH different to over there in Seal Clubber land.......we got in trouble from the guide for striking and pumping the fish to the point where the guide was actually muscling us out of the wa to take the strike, set the hooks and then hand the rod to us.........apparently you need much more gentle approach with Salmon ......we said stuff that and suggeested he park himself in the drivers seat and leave the fishing to us, we would rather loose a fish than have the guide do all the work for us.....and continued to use the West Aussie style and had a heap of fun....the guide eventually got it and was actually a top fella once he reaslised we had fished a bit....he indicated he normally just had fat seppos on the boat who had no idea.........you will probably have to look up the slang meaning of Seppo.......spetic tank........yank.....
Anyhow, keep the photos coming, great to see.
