Yes great catch ,yes there's a bit of skill when freediving, holding your breath finding the fish getting the shot and getting back to the top.im lucky to get to the bottom and have to come stright up .well done guys
Love it or hate it spearfishing is far less damaging than line fishing.With spearfishing there is no bycatch, you dont cover huge amounts of ground and the fish can out swim the diver if spooked.You just dont see undersize fish floating around on the surface with divers.
Hard to judge Shorty, but once you get a feel for it you know whats size and whats not. As for the waste comments, must disagree, tis a bloody awesome feeling and one I enjoy as much as fishing, if not more sometimes. Is that the 1400 Rob?
Must agree with Adam and other, spearing is very hard to get good fish. I reckon it is more species specific, no by catch. Sizing can be hard initially, but you get a feel for it after a while. Most fish I used to spear in the East, didn't have a size, but you only shot the big ones to make it worthwhile, by big, I mean in excess of 35cm etc.
Anyone who reckons spearing is easy, should try it, but consider sharks, depth, and fish availibility etc
