Recaptured barra
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2024-02-08 19:16
My first recaptured barra. Original capture was 670mm on 9/10/2016 in a local creek. Released yesterday in the same creek at 800mm. 2677 days out with 130mm growth.

Ansa
Yup info came from Ansa off the tag. As ktown is small, I also now have the capture photo of it in 2016. Is in nearly the exact same pose, just fish a fair bit smaller and skinnier.

Growth rates
Interesting Adam that growth rates seems fairly minimal.
We caught one years ago on the Ord that was 99cm but was a 47cm fish when released 3 years prior.
Growth rates up here a large because of the huge amount of bait in the system.
The impoundment barra in Lake Kununurra are just hitting 120cm fish now, someone on the committee would have to confirm when those original finglings went in.
It is cool to catch a tagged fish though.
For those that don't know barra stay in the same system for life, that is why finglings are only taken from spawn from that river.

lake Kununurra Barra.
Morning John,
I do believe you know me ?
My nephew Luke Phipps you may remember. Les Wain my wife is Kaz, worked with your wife i believe.
I have seen a photo of a barra a local gyrocker caught, who has the best sounder gear caught a fish measured @ 130 cm. Huge fat fish.
Up near the spillway entrance is the only info given. Could be anywhere. A lot of water between them.
The boat ramp at Wyndham is 1/4 of its original size making launching big boats a chore.
The net fishermans boat burnt out during maintenance so the barra and threadfin might have a season to grow.
Lots happened since you left. I don't fish as much as i used to but a mudflat trip last year was kind to me, i lured a 99cm, 100cm, 102 and 104 cm fish in those small creek out on the beach east of Domett.

Good Fishing
Sorry mate, confused you with someone else up that way who's username was twicther. Yes I reckon I met you previously, my eldest daughter used to date Luke.
That's a good session at Domett, hopefully the sand flies were just as kind to you.
130cm and as fat as mud, those growth rates are amazing.

Well done, give it another 7
Well done, give it another 7 or so years and get it again. It's amazing how the different conditions affect the growth rates. Nice solid fish.
