Metro Mackie in a Tinnie attempt & POTM Entry

Metro Mackie in a Tinnie attempt & POTM Entry

With a bit of planning and luck I ventured out of Freo heads last Sunday morning with the hopes of cracking the metro Mackie code. Worked it out pretty quick with fish on stickbaits and dragging lures.

Opened the account with this Sharkie, then hooked into some solid spaniards.

Dropped my first spaniard at the net so that idea was turfed and the gaff came out.

Got back to a super busy Leewin ramp covered in Mackie slime at 8am not really giving a fluff about how busy it was.

Pretty stoked with my GoPro selfie too!!

Cheers!

Extra points for being in a Tinny!

Did you have a reading of the water temp and if you don't mind, roughly how far out were you?

Water temp was 23.7 deg in that area.  Was about 1nm out from Freo Fishing Boat Harbour

Just the one sharkie and 2 spaniards but dropped one spanny whilst trying the net on him.  Happy to take the 2 fish home.

Hmmm, don't make the mistake of mixing the two lots of fillets up......Spanish mac is top shelf, one of my favourites, sharky mac is bloody awful, even my cat wont eat it......more than adequate to give to the in-laws though.... :)

My experience is that shark mackerel doesnt freeze as well as spanaird.  If you're going to eat it, eat it fresh.

Great colours in the pic.  Thats what potm is about, quality of the photo not necessarily quality of the fish.

Yeah, only ever kept one Sharky a year ago coincidently and it wasn't that great fresh.  Still had that shark smell to it but noticed that did disappear from the fillets I left in the zip lock bags prior to cryovaccing.

I guess I'll find out when I cook it up next.
