Cheers hutch n outdoinit they would be good trolling baits for sure, taste good no bones if you fry them well, i perfer herring n squid, but snapper by far.
Gday axey45 besides a good catch to you and the wife did you change rigs to target the gardies or were you catching them on a herring rig? Were you using prawns or maggots.
I normally change hook size to get gardies and then get the herring as a bycatch which isn't ideal due to using #12 hooks. The herring eat the whole hook and I have to tie on another.
Thanks sandbar, i was using small long shank #12 with small narrow bit of prawn, softned it a bit so hook them easier, tail end is always the best of the prawn rite thickness, gardies can swollow in one shot. I usally cast out n wind in so they follow then stop n wait till can't see prawn then strike otherwise just guess. I had a swivel on n trace, better with just hook on light line. I sometimes use handline for gardies you get a better feel for them. The herring where staying on the hook well not swollowed just lipped, alot of small herring threw them back maybe should of kept some for snapper bait. Next time.
spotted a nice school of gardies at the woodies groyne last Friday, but the dam herring were too quick at getting to the bait, lol. Well done that's a nice bag there
