Ya goose!

So who else was on the water today for the rotto channel swim?
i know there were some critical times on the radio, particularly with swimmers suffering hypothermia and bad sea sickness etc.
was loving the "ya goose" calls when someone was doing something stupid though! Classic

Just no respect - There was triple medical emergency happening and people talking (Goosing) over rescue services. Want to play games or have your banter, no problems go to another channel. Just wonder if it was one their loved ones involved in the medical emergency if it would be so funny .

Think it all started when
Think it all started when someone dropped it into reverse "just FYI mate there's no reversing, bloody idiot" then someone else piped up "yeah ya goose" "goose" haha
hope everyone recovers okay, did see one yesterday that looked quite serious with 3 rescue boats along side about 800m south of Phillip rock. Think race officials and water police/ rescue did really well, was our first time doing it and would definetly do it again

Respect
Hats off to the race organisers and all the volunteers involved - well organised event.
Had Sea Rescue and medics alongside within a couple of minutes after calling for assistance for our solo swimmer at 9k suffering hypothermia and breathing difficulties.
Yes,plenty of "Goose's" on 77 but race control held it together very well.

Agree with Gunner
There is a time and place for everything. The "Goose" joke was funny once. In the end the irony was that the perpetrator was the real Goose.

"Peanut" was the call on the radio as the Perth Diving Academy boat cut through the first wave of swimmers at at rate of knots. Not the best move by the skipper...

My personal opinion was that is was some harmless fun
At the end of the day, each swimmer enters the rotto swim at their own risk, the same as any other competition nowadays.
if there are medical emergencies and assistance required, yes that is obviously the number 1 priority. I think the sarcastic commentary was outside of times such as emergency medical requests being raised, and as such see no harm in it.
when your on the water for 8 hours watching others swim at a rate of about 1.5 knots, it helped to pass some of the time at least.

By the way
before people jump to any sort of conclusions, no it was not me nor any member of the boat I was on that was "the "gooseman"

Scano I'm struggling with
Scano
I'm struggling with your rationale.
Are you saying that you happy with "having harmless fun" over the official race channel, which is used to secure medical assistance when and if required.
Secondly not sure what relevance the risk of a competition has over radio protocol.
One of the barrage of "Gooses" was straight after Race Radio declared they were having a triple medical emergency and if the channel could not used. Unless in the case of emergency.
I'll say it again, want to have some harmless fun then go to another channel or turn on the am/fm radio but don't have your fun others expense or inconvinence.
yes , I recognise the fact that you claim it wasn't you or anyone on the boat you were on.

Gunner, given the potential
Gunner, given the potential risk of the last comment being taken as sarcasm, I can confirm Scano was on my boat and as skipper i can clearly state no one on my boat had any involvement in the goosing around. Yes it was a bit of a laugh but that was it.
From memory, the 3 medical emergancies were towards the later states of the event?? cant reember but thought about 2pm or something like that. I think the most of the goosing around was prior to that. dont condone it, but facts are facts.
Nothing came over the radio, but I did notice race officials were monitoring boats very closely, and i suspect it was watching for radio use during the goosing around.

Fair call
I see your point also.
hope everyone that needed medical assistance is all ok now, and that the swim goes on for many years to come.

I thought everyone who
I thought everyone who particatipated in the radio "banter" were goises. Or perhaps sheep. Race radio channels are kept open for a reason. And calling each other goose isnt the reason.
Poor form.
Fish! HARD!
