Where do you recommend for a first fishing trip to Australia?

Hey there,
Thinking about coming down that way from Tokyo towards the end of the year. I'd like to do some jigging and casting for whatever's biting. Tuna, GT, dogtooth, or whatever else is biting. I'd love to hear you guys' ideas about what's happening. If anyone could give me a solid idea on the cost of a days fishing out there, that's be great too. Thanks!

Exmouth is a good place to start for mackeral/gts/marlin/queenies/tuna - no dogtooth that i know of tho! I think half of this website is due up there for a holiday this month inlcuding myself!
On the otherside(east coast of australia) Cairns is a great place to target GTs, kingfish and other big fish on jigs and poppers.

haha well he could stay in
haha well he could stay in perth at sambo season (Oct/Nov-Feb) and im sure he'd have a ball going on jigging charters. They are usually around 150 a day and its best if you book well in advance.

G'day Gale
Heya Gale,
Your always welcome down here in Western Australia. We have some great jigging fishing for samsonfish around December/January with fish pushing the 50kg mark (if your lucky) and doing some serious damage to the arms and back (Does start earlier and go longer, but they seem to be the peak aggregating periods) We tried jigging small 200g saltwater labs up in Exmouth and had heaps of success on big trevally, but not much luck with other species. We found plenty of drop offs that looked perfect for jigging but were too busy trying to raise a marlin in the choppy and fast moving current.
If you do decide to come down to West Oz, give us a yell and we'll try and help out where possible.
Cheers,
Adam
