What boat would you get, if you had 15k

So, I am downgrading in order to get a house, was always planning on putting all the boat money into a house, but I decided I can't go without the boat. So I will be looking at spending about the 15k mark, what would you go for in that price bracket? Main uses would be fishing, with freediving Crays and Spears second use. And maybe a couple times a year pulling a knee boarder or biscuit, with the rare cruise on the river.

Ihave always had 2 stroke, and ally. I am not an ally die hard, because it does get a little bangy on the way home from rotto in the arvo, and 4 stroke would be preferable for fuel efficiency.

I would look for a solid old school fibreglass hull and re-power it. I have a pacemaker trendsetter which I re powered last year,

very versatile boat, nice flaired bow minimises the spray, reasonably heavy hull which takes a beating. Tows easily and a 90 hp 2 stoke

pushes it easily and is reasonably fuel efficient. Went to shark bay last June and plenty of the old fellas had pacies and all raved about them.

i am actually looking to upgrade and am looking at a big old school fibreglass, if I could get my hands on a carribean crusader and repower it with a diesel

inbuilt I would be wrapped.

Just a suggestion, but what about finding one of your mates to buy half of yours, best of both worlds then?

I had an identical one with a yam F115, winch etc sold 18 months back

I was thinking something like this

Anyone owned a voyager?

Voyagers are quite reasonable

Voyagers are quite reasonable boats - just want to do the due diligence on the hull motor and trailer

That age boat I would prefer one that garaged but not crucial if its been looked after/covered  - (not mentioned in the add).

Cheers

Secong hand Trailcraft with a 2 banger might pocket you $30K (what I got my one owner 5.4 for). So you spend 15k and have 15 left.

After using a smaller boat you will want to upgrade again (trust me on this)

IMHO if you dont want to totally give up boating I would keep the boat, and work from there. Might cost you less in the long term.

Agree thats an option

Downgrading from my experience just causes you to miss the bigger boat and makes you a FDP(fishing depressed Person).

All good

Thu, 2014-11-13 14:06

to down size to some degree, nothing wrong with the a good older modle glass boat, no stress with snapper sinkers and spear guns.

The only thing i would say with that is get something with the motor in good condition. having a few head acres now after doing the exact thing your about to do, i went from 30 to 7, good old hull but sleep less nights and a good relationship with sea rescue over the motor.
