Want a Whiting rod

 Hey all.

I grew up catching King george whiting off the beach down in rocking ham and i always loved the fight and also the great taste of them. I have since caught some off the boat and know of a couple of spots where you can caught the bigger ones 40cm+ size.

So my question is i need a rod to suit my Stradic 3000fi with 10lb braid. I will be using some decent amounts of lead but i also want to be able to flick small baits around as well.

I have a budget of 200 dollars but i would prefer to spend under 150 dollars and get have a length of around 7ft and 2pce.. I live NOR so i'm looking for a rod that is in a NOR tackle store.

Cheers danno

3000 reel is to big for whiting in my opinion. just use your squid gear..... or, a light bream combo.

Its not to big, it prefect for whiting fishing. I fish for them up to 30m so its the ideal size.

Try telling a bream fisherman "use anything it's just bream" or a squider to sell his squidding gear as it's only squid ;)

So whats 'decent amounts' of lead and how far are your chucking it (e.g. what length rod). I recon squid rods would be good seeing as they have a slow taper, so you can still belt out 20g (about 3/4oz) or lob a little more but you get the advantage of having quite a light tip for the bites/having fun. Most rods that are light and fun tend to have lower cast ratings, so depends how much you want to get away with. Just small ball sinkers wouldnt pose much of a prob, but you'd still want to figure out max weight you want to chuck.
