Wanganella banks - Trophy fish
I'm stuck here in my hotel room in NZ and I turn on my TV. I turn to sky sports 2 and who should I see but the main guy from the Wanganella banks DVD... for those who have not seen it....in the words of Molly... do yourself a favour and get hold of it...This is not a free plug but I think Gribbo or Shizz might have a copy at their respective tackle stores and if they don't they should. After all it was Gribbo who first showed me and the rest of the boys this DVD... Anyways its a DVD about an ultimate trip, on the "Ultimate Lady", some of the most awesome Marlin fishing I have ever seen IMO. I'll leave the contents of the DVD up to the imagination or for someone else to describe (G and Adi and Bolts hint...hint) or check out the web address at http://www.ultimatelady.com/
Anyways back to sky sports 2 fishing show... the main guy (ie the Rex, Ryan of Steve) of the show is sitting in a 12-14 foot dingy BY HIMSELF somewhere North of NZ, not a breath of wind, the ocean glassy as.... handlining for Blue Marlin. He hooks up using a live "skipjack" and fights a blue for about an hour. One hour later he brings a 100kg Marlin into the Boat on A HAND LINE that is bill wrapped...thats right the it is not even hooked!!! A fair effort I reckon, that from a guy who hasn't caught one himeself. I was really gobsmacked but not as suprised as when he announced that he was going to keep the marlin and smoke it. He then proceeded to haul a marlin as big as the boat into the boat and motor back to port.
We need to get some of these shows on foxtel!!!

Do yourself a favour!
For those of you who havent seen the wanganella banks, definately try and get your hands on it, best footage ur ever likely to see.
funky pretty much got it in one "do yourself a favour".
As for the marlin in the tinny, I WANNA SEE IT.
Bit of an "old man and the Sea" story aye, nice!! I have heard of islanders in there little wooden boats landing granders on handline, now that is crazy stuff. Like attaching a rope to a locomotive and hangin on, just knowing that the next station is five hours away.
