Tuesday's Fishing Adventures

Went out yesterday with Gully and his mate Kletch for some fishing action off Two Rocks. Unfortunately Mr Weatherman had done it to us again with the forecast being 8-13 knot north easterlies and us expecting a pleasant day on the water. It turned out to be well and truly 15-20 with us getting blown out to the fishing spot faster than we could drive. Moving at a relatively slow rate we decided that a spread of lures was in order due to the average conditions and reports of large yellowfin tuna being caught recently.

With little success we pulled them in a tried a few drifts over ground which screamed fish, but with large lead and such a strong wind blowing holding the bottom was a tiresome feat. Eventually Gully managed to land a nice breaksea and the first fish was aboard to some grateful sighs. Shortly after I knew I was onto a decent baldchin and with the trademark never give up fight it was at the side of the boat ready for the ice slurry awaiting. With two fish in the bag things went quiet again until Kletch decided to give up on jigging and turn to the darkside, using bait! The wind and current started to drop and finally things were starting to look a little more positive.

Within minutes Gully and I were witnessing the Kletch show, pulling up Pinky, Baldie, Pinky and to top it all off a Dhuie at the end of the day. It turned out to be quite an amazing feat, with Gully on one side and me on the other with the same baits and we couldn't even get a bite whilst Kletch kept on keeping on. Eventually I managed to pick up a small pinkie and to drop a dhuie half way up on the second last drift, sigh. All in all it was a top day out and good to be on the water. Cheers Gully. Here's a few pics.

Shown up

Yep have to agree with you Ads, we got shown up big time.

Didnt help that we kept missing bites or just plain losing fish on the way up, but credit where its due Kletch kicked arse. At least we ended up doing ok in the end but what would have happened if the weather was good??

Will just have to go and try again :)

Good day

It was a good day out, no doubting that. But the fishing was very very slow even though we got a good bag in the end. We were effectively fishing from 6.30 am until 5.30pm so it was satisfying when it eventually paid off. Pity the fish only started biting around 3!

Yeah we certainly had to work for what we got but all in all was not bad in the end.
Dont worry Ads 'super dhu' is waiting for you we just have to get back out there and get him. We have some unfinished buisness out there mate.

Put me on the list

Thu, 2006-07-20 10:46

For sure mate, put me on the deckie list again. Those first couple of big missed suckdowns had me burning inside. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, and then to drop that one at the end - on vid camera too, NOOOOOOOOOOO, super dhu will be mine one of these days. I think I'd almost be just as happy to see one be boated, regardless if I caught it or not.

Yes, agreed

MMMM, now to take on the Kletch opinion or not, just let the dhufish do all the work and not strike, boy that is going to be a hard one to work into the fishing technique. I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought until he destroyed that bag, unnnnnbelieveable. :)
