Tips on offshore gear

Hey guys, im a experianced land based fisho and i've never fished offshore. If i was to start, what equip and gear must i have? Like what's necessary? I have no idea, what kind of rod, reels, tackle etc. Im not thinkin of big game like sharks, marlins or whatever. Probably anything 35kg and under. I do realise that the range of gear could vary heaps but i just need an idea. Im looking at getting 2 rods and reels, probably 1 lighter action then the other.

What sort of budget are you loking at Chan?
If you are not planning on going out too often, then you can buy a reasonably priced outfit that will do you fine.
Then you can go to the complete other end of the scale.
I guess yoa are South of the River, so it would be worth your while to speak to one of the site sponsors, Oceanside down at South St Occonnor. They have all the knowledge you would ever require - and the gear to match.
You could also try a Banax reel from another sponsor, Gladiator - coupled with a Xzoga rod - supplied by another sponsor - Season Rods.

Maybe upto 400 per outfit or is that not decent enough? Im clueless with offshore stuff. Is decent offshore gear really pricey? I dont know how often i can use the gear, just want it for when im able to hitch a boat ride or on a charter. I wanna use my own gear.

if your only just starting
if your only just starting out id go a few cheaper combos .. something like the penn 330 gti combo (over head) ... they are cheap but do a great job when your starting out..
if you prefer spin gear .. a spheros 14000 matched with a rovex rod .. great products (ive used the rovex rod with my stella running 80lb and it performed great)
as for light gear ... ask honsu what he has floating around the store.

a cheap, but solid overhead like the 330gti which are good reels
and a heavy spin which can also be used for jigging etc

Easy
Tcurve 200 and saltist 40 - spooled with 50lb braid. Great allround outfit, can jig with it, troll with it and great for bottom bashing. Should be able to get one around $400-$500 spooled up.

Hrmm, yea maybe some suggestions on a alrounder combo and 1 thats abit heavier for the more serious days. And tacklewise, any 'must haves' ?

hand reel with abit of gaffa tape around your finger
all the boys/pro's here use them and and catch more it's a good place to start also. doesn't brake the bank either for a newby to reef/offshore!
