Time frame for reel repairs from a reputable brand?

Just wondering what you guys consider to be a reasonable turn around time for a reel to be repaired from a reputable name, ie Daiwa?  I was told they have a 250 reel queue at the moment (makes one wonder) and have been waiting 6 weeks for the repair.  Is this fair and reasonable and is that about right or have you guys waited longer etc?  First time I've sent something back and not sure what to expect time wise...

Daiwa have a huge backlog at the moment apparently, i was told the other day that they are looking at reels that they received on the 7th march. Where as Shimano, Freetime etc i normally have stuff back within 1 to 2 weeks.

waiting

Adam,

I had a wait time from a certain retailer (wont mention but not site sponsor) of 4 months! when i finally got it back they had broken another part of the reel which stuffed my yearly trip north.

Only got it back when I had a massive hissy fit in the shop so that may be worth a try, as a reel only should take an experienced person maybe 1 hour to strip and another hour to diagnose and put back together (with a wait on parts) six weeks does seem a bit much. Just comes down to service IMO, if they were serious about getting it back in a reasonable time frame they would employ more people.

I'm in the same boat Adam with my 6 month old daiwa saltiga game that needs a new bearing.

Was originally told 3 weeks but was told yesterday it is now 6 weeks.

Think I'll go a shimano next time, their service seems a lot better.

Doesn't sound good Adam, just another reason that makes me not want to buy Daiwa.

Like Brody said, the longest I've had to wait for Shimano repairs was a couple of weeks and I sent it from Karratha --> NSW.

Not very good advertising for Daiwa, it's a bit of a worry there is so many reels queuing up to be repaired.

I do own a saltiga 30t and, touch wood never had a problem, although all my other reels are shimano.

Shimano Lead time....

Sat, 2011-04-16 11:03

Heard from the guys at Bluewater Morley (they are unable to service due to staff shortage) last week that Shimano now also have a back log, 300 reels apparently, and any servicing is a 6-8 week turnaround.

Its disapointing that we all spend thousands of dollars each on fishing gear per year, and the two big players in the market seem to be getting worse and worse in terms of after sales service.

You would have to assume that now both companies have also sent there production in Thailand, this situation is only going to get worse as more and more reels will come out of the box with defective parts.

Okuma Salina II anyone?

Organising reel repairs at a

Sat, 2011-04-16 11:39

Organising reel repairs at a shop is a bitch of a job, and hardly worth it due to basically making nothing out of it....It's just a service that's offered to customers. I send reels back to Shimano, Daiwa etc and from there it is up to them to get the job done quickly, but we constantly have hassles.

What i would suggest is for people to send there reels back themselves as then there is no waiting for the shop to send it etc etc etc.

My concern is nothing to do with the shop, more the manufacturer as they're the ones who are performing the repair.

seems strange to have backlog

Sat, 2011-04-16 22:32

seems strange to have backlog all of a sudden. I've never had a reel sent back for repairs. Another option is to identify which part needs replacing & ordering that specific part. That's what I have done in the past. Honsu assisted me with the part order which followed through within the week.

I have also noticed if you send the reel or parts request in privately rather than through a store its quicker.Through a store its usually atleast 2 weeks, have got most of my parts orders privately in under a week from daiwa.

Coincidentally, I emailed daiwa service dept a couple of weeks back asking about a service for my dogfight. At first they didnt respond, and after I pestered them agan (I live in Carnarvon so catn get it done locally) I was told that it would be a four week turn around due to the busy period and I should wait until the winter when theres less demand and it would be a week or so.
