If nothing over 100m, do
If nothing over 100m, do yourself a favour and put on a 600W B744 with performance fairing.
It will outperform almost anything else in that depth and will hold bottom in any conditions, and it cheap.

Yes, 1 and 2 kW will be more
Yes, 1 and 2 kW will be more powerful, but in 100m and less, you only need 200W or less and you want a wide beam, not narrow which is what you get with most of the 1kW units.
Transom mount easiest to mount, hardest to get to work well, particularly in rough weather,

Thanks for that will go
Thanks for that will go that way the thought of drilling a hole in the hull was worrying, mostly fishing the islands off carnarvon mostly 20 - 80 meters

TheB744 needs a few holes
TheB744 needs a few holes drilled in the hull. If your serious, its the only way. Just suck it up and get the drill out, you will be very pleased compared with the transom mount.
