a few year back the swan was restocked with prawn frie would it be worth a old time drag net session, come those hot summer evenings , and if you get a few cobbler as a by catch do they still have to be released

Don't even think about it
Total ban on the taking of cobblers in both the canning and swan rivers.
It doesn't matter how they are caught.

Just got back
Just got back from having an early look with the prawn light.
Lost of small ones and millions of blowies. They should start to get active next month.
With all the media about the prawns expect it to be busy this season. There are rules about prawning so check them out, 1 most people are not aware of, is you can only keep prawns if you are prawning with a net, every thing else must be returned. This includes crabs, and of coarse Cobbler ( they are totaly protected in the swan canning sytems. )
So this means , while prawning you get a couple nice crabs or bream etc, and put them in your bucket, expect to get an arse kicking from fisheries. Of coarse if you get the crabs with a wire scoop net, or catch some fish with a rod thats ok .

Yeah
Yeah, just doing an early search in the hope of some liveys . Quite a few around but too small , more like shrimp size.
Should start showing up next month.

I've seen guys dragging in
I've seen guys dragging in the swan, personally completely against it... Not only did they get prawns, but they killed hundreds of small bream, crabs and other shallow water fish species.
The prawns they stocks the river with are river prawns, not the big prawns you get in winter. They are very small, Id sya last year they got a belting by the number of people doing it.
