SW FW fishing Comp
So it's time to make it official.
I am moving to Kununurra permanently in May so as a farewell to the South West crew and fellow FW members I am going to hold a fishing comp (not leaving the site just the southern end of town).
It will be Saturday April 10. The comp will follow the exmouth rules and regulations and will be fairly simple but fun and based mostly on catch and release. You will pay a basic entry fee which will go towards prizes (probably $20). It will include both LB and offshore and freshwater if you want. But there will be a jigging contest
for all the gun jiggers. Will include both junior and senior but probably easier to just have the one open age.
It will be a name tag photo with brag mat length as proof and not concerned with weighting a dead fish, but you can keep your catch as long as it meets fisheries regulations.
The comp will start at 6am and finish at 4pm with a few refreshments. At this stage we will look at Geographe Marina due to facilities (and bar) but you can lauch anywhere once you pick up your tag. I can arrange for you to pick up your tag on Friday arvo. But the finish time is 4pm Saturday at the Marina.
We will draw up a species list and it goes on length, not weight as discussed above.
It is a social comp so come join in and meet some fellow members.
If I have forgotten anything I will update the thread. Busy thinking about Barra...ha ha
Look forward.

I'm keen to head down and snap up a deckie spot with someone that's gonna get into some jigging action! Got my own gear and will put in for fuel too, also bring a camera to photograph the winning fish :)
Could be good to car pool it down with someone too... anyone?

My boat will be full but it
My boat will be full but it looks like there are a few other boats that will have deckie spots.
Just a tip to those who don't fish the area and are unfamiliar with it. If we are meeting at Port Geographe, but you want to fish the Cape (weather permitting) then it would pay to tow your boat to Quindalup boat ramp and launch from there for fuel economy and time etc. There is however some really good ground out from Port Greographe and north of there as well. I have stumbled on ground and caught good fish straight out of the blue on ocassions and I don't fish the area that often. You might also recall Big Reds 8kg Bluefin he got a couple of weeks ago only a few hundred metres off the Busso jetty.
I'm also happy if any members from out of town want to pitch a tent in my back yard for the ocassion and not have to worry about travelling back to where-ever on the Saturday night. (Huge back yard) PM me if your interested. (Friday night also ok)
Yes Goodz we did try it before but the timing just wasn't right. This is also a send off for Damo and regardless how it didn't get off the ground last time, ALL FW members are warmly welcome.
Blue Sky, Blue Water, Bluetonic!

comp list
This will be a work in progress. Don't mind further fish species but too many and the prize money ain't worth it.
I will endevour to accomodate all that attend but will draw information from threads as they are posted. First in best dressed so those looking at decking will be placed on a boat. All due respect will be granted to the skipper and they have final say on the day. Saftey first! Skippers let me know if any issues. If you are a deckie then it is expected you split appropriate costs and if this is an issue once again let me know.
Appreciate skippers demarcating deckie places; few extra beers for you
The comp, at the moment, and may change if LB crew show up, will be split into two categories, Jig (and Soft Plastic) and Bait. Given there appears to be no juniors it will be open to all ages and can change if required.
The $20 entry fee (children $5) will be paid on the day and will cover prizes and a small donation to Fishwrecked.
The species list will be;
JIG
Snapper, Dhuie, YTK, Sambo, Skippy, Salmon and Blackarse.
BAIT
Snapper, Dhuie, Salmon, Blackarse, Queenies, Herring, KGW, Sand Whiting and Bream (Silver or Black)
If the numbers aren't big then we may stipulate that you only get a single prize per person, it's all about the fun social aspect, no money will be pocketed by organisers and then it gives everyone a chance at a prize. Not to hard really.
It's catch and release so the photo will have a name tag with the fish on a brag mat. However, you can keep your fish but not going to weight it for the purpose of the comp prizes.
Entrantes are;
Seaquest Boat X 2 Deckies
Feral Boat X 2 Deckies (Nealz + Doctor) Full Boat
Nealz + Doctor (2 x Deckie for Feral)
Goodz (Deckie for Seaquest or Harro)
Paul G Boat and family
Me Boat with 7739ian
BJ Boat and Garbo
Barneyboy Boat with Kelvin8r

Geo Marina
We had always envisioned to run the first comp here as the facilites and area cater for all types of fishing, not just boats. The idea is to organise one and then based on the success then move them around the coast....... There was interest from Perth members so it allows for travel times as well. This initial comp is a template for future ones.
I am happy to send you your tags prior to the comp so you and others can head out from any local ramp and fish your prefered grounds. I'm sure a few like you, Brendan and Clint will do such. The idea is still however to start fishing at 6am and be at the Geo ramp at 4pm. Thats plenty of time to fish.
Thanks for allocating some deckie spots mate.
If I wasn't organising the comp I'd jump at a deckie spot as I've always wanted to ride in a Southbound, she's one nice rig.

At this stage the weather is looking good.
All members are welcome to come back to my place later for a BBQ and drinks. Nothing fancy, but all good people and we have a bit of fun.
I will pitch a 4 - 6 man tent (huge, you can stand up in it) in my back yard and I have a spare room with a fold out double bed also just in case anyone has a few too many drinks.
My son Ryan will set his guitar and amp up outside and play some good music also, just to kick in a wee bit more atmosphere.
Also I am happy to put food on so no obligation for members to contribute, but an indication as to who might come back would help with catering. Please PM.

Comp prize money
OK ,
There are 12 anglers fishing the comp so the entry fee will add up to $240.
Due to the number of entries we have decided to offer 3 $50 vouchers with the remaining $90 being donated to Fishwrecked.
So to be fair we will pull out three species from a hat at BJ's place after the event and the angler with that fish will win the prize.
It's a social comp and this hopefully should satisify everybody.
I will personally forgo any prize so that provides better odds for you guys......
BJ has all the gear to download photo SDS cards so it will be dead easy.....well depends on th beers......
See you all soon
cheers

Is there a prize for best snag?
If so I would have won that one today. Anchored in Geo Bay and snagged the bottom..... Kept the pressure on to try a breakoff and ended up dragging the boat, anchor and all LOL.
Actually pulled up a very pretty, big pile of seaweed on the anchor. Would that count?

Awesome Day!
I just want to say a big thank you to Damo for organising the day out, Mark (Barneyboy) for offering to take me out for the day and having to put up with me, Ben (Goodz) for quickly tying a few knots for me during crucial moments when we were surrounded by fish because I was too slow, Daniel (Dan1) for getting dirty after a shower and showing me how to fillet my salmon, Bluetonic for having everyone back after the comp and to all the people I met from the forum who were so much fun to hang out with. While it was quite a full on day for me driving down at 2am and leaving again that night, I had an awesome time chatting with FW members and their friends and family and finding out that some of the crew know people I know and having a laugh discovering that Dan1 was the guy who stacked it on his bike in front of myself and my hot friend in Coral Bay last may... Good work... the memory remains.
So thanks everyone for being awesome fun and I hope the members on this site keep up with the get togethers. There should be more of them. Keep fishing! Hopefully will see some of you up in Exie and Coral Bay in May if I can convince Lisa to come up with me again.
