Sunday dive

Headed out from Two Rocks with the guys for a dive . Bloody wind was 20-25 knots so we didn't go far .Found a nice edge running east west so though we would give it a go.Viz was good at 15m and plenty of small fish around .Got one small dhuie .Seen kg's and snapper .Was a nice dive but its getting a little cold .No crays anywhere we were in 10-15m

better then sitting at home huh paul? i braved the screaming nth easters we have up here atm and went for a arvo dive locally on friday arvo. viz was fairly bad at a very hazy 10m and a slight nth current didnt help. managed 1 late season spaniard of 15kgs and a nice 7kg dhu , mate picked up his first good dhu on the gun at 8.5kg and a nice trout so we couldnt complain! agree with the gettin cold part! its hell gettin out of the suits at the end of a day thats for sure!

Was that reading in the marina?

They get super cold, it was 15 in the river and I've never found the ocean of wa cooler than river while is still cray season is on ;)

Pretty sure SST sats are showing some sneaky cold stuff hugging the coast, but even that is marked 19!

Nice vis.  Surprised by 13

Mon, 2011-06-13 09:16

Nice vis.  Surprised by 13 aswell - seems way to low.  Do you wear a hood Paul.  Makes a huge difference in keeping warm.  Had 3mm from my vest and a 5mm hood when in the river last week - keeps you toasty.

Plenty of crays at that depth around Rotto too.

Cheers Pete

Good to still get out there

Mon, 2011-06-13 09:36

Good to still get out there even if its not as far or as deep as you'd hope. What type/thickness of suits are you wearing?

Wouldnt be very surprised if it was 13 in the marina, i've recorded differences of some 4+ degrees according to my sounder. Never remember to check the temp when i'm down there but my comp records it, so does at least tell me what temp it was when I check it later which is interesting.

Any fish?

Mon, 2011-06-13 11:06

Any fish around paul? looks like great vis. Dived 14 meters last week off ocean reef, think we had about 18-19 degrees at the bottom. saw a few crays around but all were way back, really skittish and the ones we bagged were all jelly shells. might be why the they're so scarce at the moment.
