Sunday Afternoon River Tailor Sesh

 hey there Gang,

I put decided to put the tinny in at Point Walter this afternoon, after my Saturday fishing plans were interupted by a garage sale that went a bit out of control.  After all the reports of tailor around, and a week earlier having got a couple up towards Freo, I shot over to Matilda Bay and put out a chrome twisty on one rod and a small Impulse shallow diver I picked up from the bargin bin at Bluewater Melville.

In the next 2 and a bit hours I recon I landed over 40 tailor, mostly undersize or just size and lost a lot close to the boat, it was manic.  I had most hookup on the diver, but the chromy still got a few.  It was great fun on the bream gear.  I didn't see any bird action that others have mentioned, but the most productive area for me was from about the Royal Flying Squadron yacht club around to opposite Point Walter before it gets shallow right over on the northern side.  That said, I still got fish right in front of the old Swan Brewery and Matilda Bay areas.  I would be good to consistently get the larger ones some how, I tried a few different size lures bit still lots of choppers.

So in all, a great fun solo session, there was plenty of other out there doing it too, probably a few FW members.  I saw Dan's new Contender fly past me and maybe a few other boats I recognised, Ryan C's Trailcaft with Verado with engine cover maybe??  Get out there guys, they are thick.

Hey I had this goal as well, always just a bait soaking type for ages, but went out onto the swan (tinnie) and packed the mulies and the lures, threw out a couple chrome twistys and a diver, going to give them ago before I got the baits out, but never had time to think, down near matilda bay, we just followed the birds and was instant hookups, and double hookups! I think its all about finding the fish, not letting the fish find you

I was trolling for them.  The lure that had most success only dives maybe a meter or slightly more.

I wnet out again this time last week and got 15 more, 4 of those size, bro in law was out a couple of days ago and got some as well in and around Claremont jetty area

Last Night

Wed, 2011-12-28 15:55

Was out there last night we boated about 8 all undersize which didn't matter to much as we weren't really planning on keeping any. The best area was between pelican pt and matilda bay with the best lure a Rapala x-rap SXR-10 followed by the scorpion 35 and the Surecatch Bishop. I was rather stoaked to catch a couple on my light 1-3kg bream gear using the scorpion 35 however I probably won't continue destroying my scorpion lures in this way.
