hey guys!
been trying for eagle rays for about a year now, and had a few runs at hillarys... all im using is a 100lb leader attached to a 7/0 black magic hook :) i thought it would be alright...
just thought are there any better rigs i could use???? and tweaks to the rigs, if u guys have any expirience :)
btw i'm using 50lb braid to get them in, thats plenty i'm told :P
cheers Harry

Eagles rays are extremely
Eagles rays are extremely common pretty much anywhere along our coast. Downsize ya leader to 60lb and run 2x snelled 5/0's and a whole scaly mackerel or any other medium sized baitfish. Mullet fillets, herring fillets also work very well but it doesnt matter just as long as they have a bit of smell coming from them. Just use a standard running sinker rig, nothing fancy. I catch most of my rays as bicatch for other species and I mostly use 20 and 30lb braid around perth either on the boat or shore based.
They can be a bit of fun between quiet periods :)
Just remember to treat them with care if you plan to release them. I know some people like to eat them but I personally have never bothered as it seems like too much work.
Have fun champ :)

Rays...
I even got one of those nuisances why fishing for KG's on my 9lb line the other night... Didn't credit it...
Mullet works a treat... or any form of fish heads on a hook... Id step down to a 6/0 hook
But the best tip I heard somewhere, or maybe I read it in the forums here at some point...
The easiest way to catch rays, is to be sure tell someone you are going fishing for Mulloway before you leave...
All that I know...Is that my gut says.....Maybe...

iv caught plently by just using a gang to a star sinker with just a mulie, you could hold the rod and wait but its alot easier to chuck it out and put it in a rod holder, i make sure the line is sorta tight with a lossish drag doesnt matter i guess coz if it grabs it, it wil run so youll know either way., just kepp trying coz they are everywhere,, mabe try usuing berely such as fish oil ect, becasue when shark fishers do this they always attract the rays aswell,, good luck.

no need for a gang...
no need for a gang... single circle will do it.
your only trying to catch one fish at a time, not 5.
