Some Coral Bay pics

Here's some pics from our time in Coral Bay. The weather wasn't the best but we still managed to get some great fish. The boat is parked up as the next 2 days look too windy and we are leaving Saturday.

What were you getting the reds on?
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Looks like...
...a lionfish is having a nibble on his dorsal fin!
Great photos/fish, simo, and good to see a fair few of 'em caught on the artificials!

I hear that Merv
has a girlfriend groper now who also visits the ramp area - apparently they call her mervette.

Yeah theres been a couple I think.
I was up there a couple years ago and heard of a story that someone had caught the resident groper and the locals told him to leave that night as he won't be served at the pub, accomodation will be revoked and no fuel will be given to him.
Not sure how true it is but makes for a good story when you hear it from the locals.
Cheers

Whats in the mouth of the fish that the guy in the blue shirt is holding? Looks like the fish is coughing up it's own guts?

When you pull a fish out of deep water, the change in pressure as they ascend can force their swim bladders to inflate rapidly...the result is seen in the photo.
If you release the fish, you have to send them down to the bottom attached to a release weight, which gives the swim bladder every chance to go back to normal and the fish should be ok. That's why the fisheries have made release weights compulsary inclusions in your boat when demersal fishing.

The first one Simo_ dropped after raving about them (they look the goods too) 2 turns of the handle and it was bitten off. That was amazing he didnt even get to jig it properly and it was gone.
