Snow crabs

Went out and pulled a few crab pots off Freo with a Pro I know. Depth varied from about 350 to 400 fathoms. Apparently the tastiest crab in the world and I can vouch for that. When they are caught they are put in to about 8 degrees of water to revive because that is the temp they are usually in. They get exported live to China Asia.

Cool
Wow, catching a crab I never knew we got here, and sending it straight over seas.
It'd be good to see it in a few seafood shops here.

Very interesting, Are all the pots linked? 300 pots with over 700m of rope would be madness

Interesting post, thanks for posting.
Still never tried one of those crabs!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

The boat I went out on fishes
The boat I went out on fishes for king crabs off Cape Leeuwin Windy harbour at times and the bottom of his pots are pretty munted from the claw damage from the kings, they rekon they dont come off easily, they fetch a higher price also.

interesting post thanks blitzed
thanks for sharing some real interesting photos,I saw a couple of these crabs for sale in the freo markets a few weeks back, thought they were a bit pricey but after seeing how deep you have to fish for them perhaps the price isn't to bad. Do the crabs enter the pot via the top hole or do you have to modify the plastic pots.

Hey meglodon, they enter thru
Hey meglodon, they enter thru the top whole, the pots seem to be standard cray pots. King crabs apparently dont come north of Cape Naturaliste
