Slow motion Black Marlin, Peak Sportfishing Exmouth
Submitted by K_willo on Thu, 2019-02-14 09:36
I recently had a chance to film the Peak Sportfishing guys in action for the Exmouth Heavy Tackle Tournament.
I really wanted to get some tight in shots of billfish hitting the switch with a proper camera not just the standard GoPro footage. With Cyclone Riley bearing down on us bringing big seas and howling winds making it made it incredibly hard for me to nail these shots with my head over the side spewing up.
These are the shots I did manage, some good shots of a black coming in hot on the switchbait and some great shots of a fiesty small one doing its jumping thing on the leader.
Enjoy!

Thanks guys! Yeh the conditions were difficult to say the least.
I'm thinking of this session as a practice session, heaps to learn and improve on (I cut alot of unusable footage out).
When trying to film the fish come in on the bait, I'm holding the camera above my head full extension and trying to watch the tilted down LCD screen, I basically had no idea if I captured anything at all.
We also had a double on 60 and 80kg Yellowfin both on the pushers but no strike footage so didn't include it.
Can't wait to get back up there with hopefully some nicer weather.

I;ve wanted to do that with stills
...for a long time. I've got some fairly good stills over the years, but it's always been a case of having to drop the camera to drive the boat or whatever. I've been considering doing a charter with Eddie, and not touching a rod, just concentrating on the photography side.

Ed is definitely the guy to do it with. I'm sure you'd be pretty popular with a group of anglers if you didn't want to be on the rod as well haha.

I'd actually forgo all rod time just to take the pics.
I can catch marlin off my own boat, ( but nowhere near Eddie level ) but getting pics is the hard part.
