Salmon movements

I am wondering if anyone has any authentic words on the salmon action down south. I have heard and read mixed reports with some suggesting that there is no action and others suggesting the opposite.
I am heading down Smith's Beach/Yallingup on Thursday so I am hoping that there may been some salmon seen around the area recently - or even better - heading that way.
Many thanks, Colin Hay

Oh No

Mon, 2008-03-10 13:38

Thanks guys, Maybe they will decide to move today.
Oh well - can't beat a few days down south and a lot of fishing and there are plenty of other fish to catch.
I can't put this trip off but I might have to book in sometime after easter as well.
Thanks again.

I recently watched the FWA episode where you and Steve chased salmon down the beach and landed a few on lures. Was that Meelup beach?
Many thanks, Colin Hay

Warm Water?

Mon, 2008-03-10 14:38

There was no sign of any schools at Hamelin Bay over the long weekend.

23 degree water down there too.  This might be contributing to the delayed migration north.

Cheers Pete

I was at Hamlin Bay on the weekend just gone.

Sat morning there was a school of Salmon 5m X 5M X 3M deep that was slowly working their way south through the bay.
Unfortunately the swell was up and they were hanging out behind the breakers. Wasnt until a big wave came through that you got to see how deep the school was.

We caught 3 stragglers from this school, there were herring around but very quiet besides.
We usually catch a range of rays and sharks and they werent even around.

Only heard of 1 other Salmon being caught along the beach apart from us.

That said I went for a quick troll on Friday moring in my boat when the rain finally went away and there pods of Dophins all over the bay.

made a trip down last weekend and nudda. Got to be sunny as it's hard to see schools swimming by. Water temp don't help either being so high for this time of year. Hangin' out for some fishing action.

I will have to keep those spots up my sleeve for a few weeks as I have had to cancel my trip to deal with something at home. All the best, Colin
