Rod for poppers

I'm looking at buying a rod for throwing larger type poppers for queenies, trevs ect. was just wondering what you guys think about what makes a good rod for this type of fishing in terms of construction. not really fussed about brands at this point. any input would be great.

All depends on what size poppers you wanna throw. I just got smith komodo dragon and thats for chucking the real big boys, but if its for queenies and smaller gts id be looking at the t-curve 15-24kg spin or monster mesh from diawa.

first things first
how deep are your pockets? that will dictate what people should be recommending you. then specify what reel you are using, what line class and what size poppers.
what you have asked is pretty ambiguous....

im looking at using it with
im looking at using it with a penn captiva cv4000 with 50p braid. I dont have a huge amount to spend so good cheeper rods are the go. but im more looking for ideas such as do you prefer a longer rod ie 7ft plus, a stiff tip or quite soft? those sorts of things.

Cheap and GT popper rods rarely go together :p If you're only throwing lighter poppers around (perhaps under 100g) there might be cheaper options. What is your definition of cheap btw? There are also a lot more options if you go a bit lighter than 30lb. Also, boat based or LB most of the time?
I did see one cheaper rod that went to 50lb and was cheap. I think it was a daiwa opus bull? Said 30-50lb or something, so I dont know 50lb is pushing it. Would be interesting to hear opinions on it.

A Monster Mesh fits the bill nicely I reckon. A bit softish in the tip, but with your "good cheapish" budget, I reckon $350 or thereabouts is the go.
2 piece, 8'3 so it will be good from shore, but a comprimise on a boat. Its rated PE6-8, but most say it will be fine with 50lb, but better suited to 65lb. Most comments are that it wont throw super big poppers very well, despite Daiwa claiming lures up to 200gm, but up to 130gm is sweet.
Some people have mentioned using a Nitro Godzilla for popping: its 7' 2 piece 10 - 15kg and throw 30 - 90gm lures ($300). No idea how it would go, but I dont think a captiva will put enough drag out to bother the rod as such.
Beyond that, you start looking into $500 and beyond territory.

Before you even consider the
Before you even consider the rod....might want to check out what your reel can handle.... From what I remember the Penn Captivas were graphite construction all over and fairly small as well for 50lb work. Even the largest one wont handle 50lb braid. May I suggest you budget for an all new 50lb outfit.
Eg.. Penn 850ssm, Banax GT5000, Abu Cardinal 807, Daiwa Opus Bull 4500/6000... these are all in the budget end of reels that can handle 50lb braid.
Rods...many to choose from. Take all the comments above into consideration when you're in the tackle shop next.

Honsu has hit nail on the head, 50lb would kill that reel quite quckly, if you still want to persevere with it drop your braid to 30lb and put it on a Penn Power stick 10-15 kilo, that should get you by whilst saving for an outfit like the guys are talking here.

30lb will be more fun on the
30lb will be more fun on the queenies and smaller trevs too :D Lot more rod options. E.g. I have a nexave southern spin, thats around 20-30lb, casts up to around 60g (neither are on the rod though :p) for about $150. Good for chucking metals, poppers and plugs around (patiently waiting for salmon season). 9' so you can cast good distances. I've used it baitfishing in the surf with lighter sinkers too.
