Not a chance Wayne, Tyson was a brawler. Ali was a boxer, Frasier would've beaten Tyson. It was very sad to see Ali in that condition in his later years, I remember watching him as a kid and was starstruck. My oldman was a heavyweight champ in the British army and he rated Ali as the best ever. RIP to a great man.
Brawler... come on now. Tyson pre prison was a pure athletic beast that gave away up to a foot in reach and used amazing head movement to draw the jab and get inside (usually landing a straight on the way un) to land brutal hooks and uppercuts and using his footwork to change the angle of attack to a quasi southpaw to land those clean uppercuts.
Ali was an amazing technician who's punching efficiency is second to none. The Thriller in Manilla is the perfect example of this where Ali was taking a brutal beating but was able to throw clinical shots to keep Frasier at bay... only just long enough history would show.
Frazier was just wow. History has been unkind to a man who was one of the greatest of all time, a bit like Bill Ponsford and it could be argued he was Ali's better in regard to the matchup between the two. Even though I train Muay Thai I first starting out in boxing and I model my glovework on Frazier and use my left hand to rip and hook to control my sparing partner and nullify their reach.
All three were amazing fighters but Tyson get the chocolates for mine due to his pure dominance of his opponents.
Tyson v Ali would have come down to the ref and how much he allowed Ali to clinch Tyson to nullify his inside punches.
Tyson v Frazier. Well you can only salivate at the thought of this fight and it may well have ended in one of them being taken out in a body bag. Frazier did however have a tendency to lean forward when he bobbed making him susceptible to uppercuts playing right into Tyson's strength and being his ultimate downfall one could surmise.
No but lucky for me a there was a great technology around at the time called a video camera. My mate's Dad had a 19 VCR Ali box set and we'd spend all day watching them and funny enough it was the exact same footage those around in Ali's 'heyday' would have seen... without getting caught up in the hype of the day. I can all but guarentee I've seen more footage of Ali than 95% of people who were around in his 'heyday'.
Let's not forget who gave Ali the moniker of 'The Greatest'.
Sad to see him go. He said it enough times so he must have been the greatest. Agree with JF Tyson would have mauled him. Didn't mind him till i watched an in depth doco on him after that thought he had the same attitude as mundine.
for sure Cassius was the better boxer but they both were arrogant and thought the world owes them bringing religion and politics into sport. I would rate frazer and liston as better people anyday.
Muhammad Ali fought on several fronts, he wasn't controversial, racism and segregation were. Yes he was supremely confident, in poetic form, short of arrogant he was the peoples champ and surrounded himself with the people. He fought the abhorrent social norms of the time, fought the government and refused to be conscripted fighting an unjust war. The combination of his boxing prowess, world famous personality and unwavering stance for justice, surely makes him the 'the greatest'. To Allah we belong and to Allah we return. Peace.
...and mostly succeeded against monsters. Tyson never went against guys like Frazier, Foreman, Norton. In short, Ali was king of the heavyweights, at a time when heavyweights were king.
Before he refused to go in the army he was just awesome watch highlights of the Williams fight he was untouchable. Williams was no bum either, Take 3 years off then come back and fight a tune up against Jerry Quarry then take on Frazier for the title for 15 rounds the guy was a freak. Who would have got up from that left hook in that fight?? the Heavyweight division was stacked with talent in the 70's and he fought some wars with all of them. Look at Tysons era! no comparison.Tyson never fought the best heavyweights in the division in his prime like Lewis,Bowe,Holyfield etc. Ali could take a punch to the detrement of his health in later life but he would have weathered the storm and finished iron mike. The thrilla in Manilla is an absolutely brutal fight 14 rounds in 40 degree heat with two men not giving an inch. They both were never the same after that fight. He was the Greatest
Yep his science was unfathomable, the way he dodged 'most' punches which left open his opponents was the highlight for me. Like you say heavyweight back then was stacked with talent. My old man was a light heavyweight champion boxer in the army and he told me as soon as you moved out of your class back in those days you were in trouble as most classes had their specialists. Where have those days gone.
Destroyed boxing along with the orgainisations that hold the belts. Making up all these divisions and even now they have champs and super champs etc. Boxers don't fight the best the sport is ruined. I remember Bob Foster the light heavy world title holder going up and fighting Ali, Now he was untouchable at his weight but Ali crushed him.I watch UFC because they are told who to fight and cant dodge anyone. Dana White is an old boxing guy and saw what happened to that sport. All I have now is memories and you tube. There has been some classics over the years.
Well there is a few but Tyson Fury would be the most recognised but there is also Joshua Anthony and I think one other. The belt that Lucas Browne fought for was a lesser version of Heavyweight belt. See how much of a mess it is.. You should only be classed as a world champ if you hold all three belts of the main organisations. WBC,WBA,IBF.

Wow, did he die? I heard he went into hospital. More sadness to sad day, and yes, he was no doubt the greatest.
