Reel recommendation for 12ft Rovex Bario surf rod

Hi all,

Well I managed to pick up a 12ft Rovex Bario surf rod today, extremely pleased with it so far.
But I'm in need of a decent reel for it now. Have tryed a Penn 950ssm reel on it and don't like it at all, no good to cast with.

I'm after something extremely smooth and can hold a good amount of line. Would love a Daiwa Saltiga Surf 6000 but is a bit over my budget. Hoping to spend $300-350 at the most.
Thought maybe a Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500? Just wanting a light, smooth spinning reel.

Most importantly the combo will be used for tailor, salmon, and if I'm lucky enough mulloway haha.

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Actually an 8000 Stradic would suit it really well!

5000 would be to small for it in my opinion.

Keep with

the theme of the outfit. I have a Daiwa Emcast 4500 on mine but would i'm looking to upgrade to a Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500. A couple of my mates have them and i'm very impressed by them. There a great reel with a smooth drag and you could easily run 30lb braid on it. The best features of these reels is the extra distance you get on you cast with the long cast spool and the very fast retreive speed perfect for spinning lures. At around $250-300 there good value. Personally I would think a Saltiga surf would be overkill on a $150 rod. You could also have a look at the Daiwa Windcast, i havn't seen one used but they look the goods on the shelf.

I have an 11 foot Bario & use an 8000 stradic on it. It's well balanced & caught plenty of pinks, mullas, tailor & sharks. I run 20lb mono on it. Just remember to thoroughly wash your beach gear... I just inspected mine & it needs a bit of attention haha

I have a bario 12ft  and i previously used a penn 850 which went well with it. Plus the 850 has a large capacity for line.

I later upgraded to a Twinpower 10000 FB and it was balanced well however i could never use the reel to its full potential.

I would recommend a 6000 to an 8000 size reel on these rods as stated above. Have you considered a Saragosa? they are another good little reel for the price and from memory in the $350 bracket.

For the price they are a great rod. I put mine though its paces and it is still perfect. I only use it now when my partner wants to fish and she uses my xzoga.
