Quick spin to the islands-added a couple of video links
Took my two boys out for a run to the islands this week as their school is closed for an extra week.
They hadnt been out there since April I think so were pretty keen.
Left tuesday arvo, back this afternoon.
First fish up, dhuie
Wednesday was a cracker day, we decided to play with the plastics, with Cam giving it a red hot go.
Unfortunately the fish were quiet in the morning but we got onto a hot patch of-charlie courts
The boys had a blast though, probably caught and released 20 or 30 in shallow water on plastics
There were heaps of mackies around, and we chased a couple of schools but they just wouldnt touch our lures or a floating bait, even when we could see them schooled under the boat...
Change of plan later and headed out a little deeper and tryed drifting unweighted mulies down to pinkies which got our bag in about an hour plus a few lost off the hook and to sharks, boys loved it and gave them a good work out
Forecast for the next day was a bit average, NW 20-25 going round to SW, not much good for fishing but we can handle that.
That night though, woke up at 1am, solid 30 knots NW and rain so had to wake the young bloke up and we moved out from where we were to a mooring, normally sheltered but a bit choppy with the high tide letting chop over the reef.
Next day was quite crappy so we sat out the morning, the boys watching the little flatscreen TV in the cabin while the rain poured down.
I could hear hysterical laughter in there, stuck my head in and theyd found all the old Abrolhos and Coral Bay fishing vids on my hard drive and we watched them for a bit of nostalgia.
After the rain dropped off, we were watching big schools of pelagics and birds working so the boys wouldnt leave it alone until we headed out for a look and a go.
There were schools of tuna and small macks together absolutely boiling, but STILL couldnt get them on a hook.
At one patch there was about 10 sharks mowing thru the fish in an area of about 5 meters by 5.
Friday the weather had cleared up a little, so a big cook up of bacon eggs and baked beans on the little camp stove to kick the lads along
and departed with a 15 knot SW behind us, which after 15 minutes morphed into a 20-25 knot ESE
Swell was about 4 meters, which was no bother, we still made 15-18 knots and I stuck Cam on the wheel for the last 1/2 hrs to get a bit of a feel for surfing
At the ramp, Fisheries were waiting which was a bit of a suprise as there was no activity given the weather.
Went through us, no probs and I had all the notifications, licences and permissions lined up for them.
Started querying how many did you catch first day, did you catch any today etc and the easiest answer is cant recall, rather than risk being tripped up by trick questions.
Also the reason I dont like them to talk to the kids sadly.
Well within limits with about 10 fish, and they were polite and very cordial as it should be on both sides.
Trip over bar the scrubbing!
If I could work out how to embed a video from photobucket Id chuck some up but after 5 years here I still cant work it out...
Still unable to work out how to get a preview to show, even with help from Adam

Not ideal
Hey Paul
Was only a short move as the wind turned NW much earlier than I expected.
Ive plotted and named tracks to all the places I may need to get into at night, just in case.

Thanks for sharing
Thank you for sharing your great time with the kids. When the weather is bad there is only one place to be, curled up in the warm bunk.

Once again mate, nice little story to assist the rest of us in dreaming we that we are doing something more enjoyable than work.
Home in a few days, will have to catch up for those beers and maybe a trip over if the weather plays the game
