Does he own his business these days? I remember he sold out, I never really manage to keep up with whats going on with that business.

My understanding only

Yes I think he does.  He sold off the lure making "arm" and has since bought it back.  I don't think it was particularly pleasant as I understand it the legal beagles were involved.  There is a lot of info on his site if you care to search.

lures

Wed, 2010-02-17 21:39

I was a Pakula lure man for a while, now a Richter lure man through & through as the range is priced cheaper with same outcome =)

Jamie, dont quote me please but he sold out originally to Taylormade the company and after some time has re-gained the company in conjuction with Freetime Australia as distributor!

Lures other than Pakula

Wed, 2010-02-17 21:51

Does any other brand offer the same recommendations, explanations, knowledge, tuition that the Pakula site does?  If so point me to it.  Yes Pakula lures may cost a little more but imo all things considered that's OK.

All I'll say is that between

All I'll say is that between The Pakula website, Alan and Ryan I have learnt all my billfish trolling techniques...

What colour / size lures, where in the spread each lure should be etc... You two guys should have your own websites... The Pakula site is fantastic.

Alan - I'm just around the corner from the Bluewater Store. Drop some of Merle's scones in and I can tell you all the good news about the Red River camp

I agree Bones. We went

I agree Bones.

We went pretty hard in game fishing a few years back. With a fishing background, but very little in the form of gamefishing, I found Pakula stood out in passing on tips, techniques, instructional videos etc.

If you are thinking of getting into gamefishing you could do a lot worse than doing a search of 'pakula'.

And he probably sells a few lures as a result!!

I don't think there is any good news about the RR camp but I'm happy to exchange scones for some of you mum's pizza.  Wink

I thought pakula sold out to zacatack lures and then brought it back with freetime distrubiting.

No Charge for the Pakula Night.......

Fri, 2010-02-19 09:49

Hi guy's,

I was just in talking to the guy's at Bluewater Melville getting some gear for Exmouth and mentioned the Pakula night and they said there is No Charge for it and they will be doing a saussage sizzle and other stuff as well.

Spewing I won't be there for it but we are draggin the boat up for Gamex on the Sat. Great rigging tips from Pakula, but as for the Lures, every brand is just some perspex with a rubber skirt, so each to their own.

I have seen certain adult toys used as lures and they have caught fish. Maybee something to do with the catch scent?? Just like smearing "S Factor" on squid jigs me thinks CoolCool...

Size?

Fri, 2010-02-19 19:22

Just a query on the billfish- do the adult toys in the 10-12inch range catch more than ones in the 5-6inch range (heh heh)
