Penn 16VSX - Which braid

Just bought a Penn 16VSX that I'll be using for bottom fishing 100m+.
As I'm guessing I'll need a fair bit of line I want to make the right choice. Any suggestions for a decent line for the Penn around 60-80lbs. Any ideas how much braid it will take (The Penn site shows about 500m of 80lbs braid but doesn't state the thickness of the line used to calculate the amount needed) My other reel I use 66lbs Power Hunter braid which I am happy with but interested in other suggestions.

If your going to bottom bash with it (or jig) then I'd recommend going for the multicoloured braids.
Nothing better than being able to rapidly drop line to a preset depth without worrying about hanging up on the bottom. More time in the bite zone IMO.

Nothing better than dumping a leadhead (admittedly on a threadline) to the known spot on the spool without worrying about touching the bottom. Many a time its crunched on the descent and if the bail is already engaged then your right in the game.

I've got it on a couple of reels
And I honestly cannot say when I have ever bothered to look at the colours and count them to see "how deep I am" - I freespool the O/H til it thuds the bottom and then engage. If I wanna see how deep it is I look at the sounder.
The idea is great in theory, but rubbish in application IMO. Persoanlly I wouldn't be rushing out to get it over any other braid.

Yep, each to their own. I wont be going back to plain coloured braids for bottom bouncing/jigging though.
Personally I wouldn't be bottom bouncing with 120lb braid either but then again, I ain't no terrorist.

Most of my jigging is fairly agricultural then - I drop it to or damn near close to the bottom and work it up.

Not everyone drops it all the way to the bottom. If you're fishing in 100m and you see fish showing on the sounder at 60m then you're going to want to drop it just bellow that depth and work it through the fish.

you'll see your jig dropping through the school in real time - better than your fancy colourful braid. LOL
Jay, it has its place if you wanna use it, but personally I cant be arsed. And the original was asking for bottom bashing which IMO renders depth coloured braid pointless. You are either on the bottom or not - you dont need colours to tell you.

My pref!
I'm runing Berkley Whiplash on my Penn 16VSX, a very thin braid when compared to others and strong. Many of my outfits are loaded with this line and running 65lb will allow for more than ample line capacity for very deep water also!

Brenz - The 16VSX is a good reel - a bit heavy compared to some - but good.
I like the idea of the Berkley Whiplash, but do like the multicolour of the YGK Power Hunter that I use- It tells me the depth at which to wind like hell as I enter the shark-zone. I also use the coloured markers to drop down to fish that are sitting off the bottom. Will have a look at the other coloured braids mentioned b4 decision time.
Cost wise though might end up with the 65lbs whiplash though.

Bit late but I have around 800m of 65lb Tuff line on my 16VSX.
Is a bottom bouncing reel only so dont need the fancy colours.

Whiplash is great stuff, and
Whiplash is great stuff, and recommend it over anything for bottom fishing because it's so thin.
