Now this subject has been flogged through and through but im not yet satisfied! I want to buy either a Stella 20000 or a Saltiga expodition. Please if you have owned both (not just used one because ive used both myself!) Or owned either one for a while could you please give me your likes and dislikes on these reels. Ive heard and seen both stellas and saltigas fail before so its just a final toss up for me.
Have you had any problems?
If so what?
Did you buy one then change to the other?
If so why?
And just a general feed back from "OWNERS" of these reels to see what they think could be better with each one. Please just supply info on the requested reels above no other models as this is all im interested in.
Cheers Chris, muchly appreciated.

Hi Spess i Have used both. I
Hi Spess i Have used both. I first got a Expedition, then recently i wanted a high speed model, I was going to get the Stella but went against it only because if i got another saltiga all my spools would be interchangable.
Personaly i have had no problems at all with my Saltigas. Id happily buy a Stella aswell as my Saltigas.
Stellas has a better drag over the saltiga. You can upgrade the saltiga to use carbontex washers and this makes it alot smoother.
The saltiga is slightly lighter than the stella but not much at all.
Both are superior reels and you will be happy either way. Just toss a coin and choose that way :)
Cheers

in the exact same boat as you spess!
i posted a thread about a month ago asking the exact same question as you. have a look http://fishwrecked.com/node/8053 in the end i think im goin to go the stella 20000 as it is a bit cheaper. all the research ive done on them i haven't found much difference between the two! only as rob said salti is a lil lighter, but minimal which doesnt matter! let us know which u choose

stella
spess i have a stella 20000, although i havent given it a good workout on anything big i use it quite a bit. I use it as a bit of an allrounder when i was in perth i used to for a bit of sambo jigging and over here in north queensland i use it for everything, popper chucking, bottom fishing, jigging and plan on using it for switchbaiting when we get a bit more into game fishing. I havent used an expedition but find the stella a beautiful reel to use. I dont think you can go wrong when you buy quality.

get the 20000
Went through the same thing - You can get the Stella for a lot less $$$. I bought the stella plus spare spool plus both full of braid for what I would have paid for just the Expedition, which I would only have bought because I think it looks cooler but for once my head beat my wallet. No probs at all with the Stella, don't expect any either, have given an 8000 a flogging for a while now and it is still as good as when I bought it.

Spess... dont like the
Spess... dont like the responses....get BOTH!!. I did...lol... last count was 2 Expeditions, a blast, a Stella 8k and a 5k and soon to come.....a 20k.....
Hard to pick out a clear winner. Both can handle what you want it to do. Both have powerful gearing. Stella run worm drive giving a smooth feeling and very even line lay. Downside its a bit heavier and not very spoofy in colour. Saltiga feels rugged and strong but lacks in line capacity compare to the Stella. It also has a troublesome drag with most people replace with Carbontex and requires bit of maintainence every now and then. Whereas the stella is good to go straight out of the box with no modification required. My Stella 8k is a much better reel than my Blast (and the Z4500 as well), smoother and more drag, more torque so you can really keep on cranking until the rod fully loads up and more or less winch less substantial fish up. Lately Ive been using my stella more than my blast and expedition due to the fact Im now running PE6 (78lb) and going hard everytime. Everytime Ive taken it out it feels like brand new.

Got a Stella 10k and 4k . Both awesome flawless reels for me. My big stella hasnt been serviced in about 2 years now and its still running like a dream even after zillions of sambos, sharks, and shite loads of northen species(including a marlin woo ha)
Used the Saltys, there nice but cant fault my stella. I go with what i know.
GO STELLA

If you were choosing between
If you were choosing between a Stella 8k and a Z4500 I'd have to say go for the stella. Me and a mate fish an 8k and a Z4500 side by side and I reckon my stella is a much better reel, way smoother, stronger drag.
In the 20000/6500 size range there is not so much a clear cut winner and I think Honsu summed it up pretty well. When two reels are so close performance wise, the only real logical choice would be to get the one that's cheaper as I seriously doubt that an expedition is $300 better than a stella.

stand out
The fact that you need to upgrade the drag washers and you actually pay more for the Saltiga, the Stella is a stand out for sure. The market price for a Stella is right as most stores sell them. Saltiga's on the other hand are sold by selected shops only so you pay the price.

Z6500Exp
I have an Exp.
Problems - none whatsoever.
Niggle - line capacity on box states 300m PE8, I can only fit on 210max. - but it does/can take 300m PE5.
True life test with standard reel:
Exp. and 80lb braid - 72kg Amberjack (boated), then two more about the same size/bigger - one reefed off and the other the rod broke (Lami Tropic Pro 5650) = Diawa Exp. still running perfectly!
