H/B'day!

They normally hit the deeper water/schooling fish so pinkys/skippy/sambo's and a few Dhufish/blackarse and queen snapper thrown in!

Take your own braided outfit or borrow if you can. Also take a few heavier sinkers ie 20 & 24oz or get them to double up the sinkers. If your not on the bottom you wont get fish especially with the Northern current of late!

Happy B'Day BTW, enjoy you charter!

Be careful with your own tackle

Charter was out of Hillary's don't know the name of it, but Bob gave son-in-law the alvey 9" boat reel, so Geoff's fishing away, nearly everybody on board got tangled, the deckie came alone started cutting lines, Geoff yelled out don't cut my f$#@%$kin' line its not yours (150 meteres of braid) and the deckie just looked at him and cut the 40lb braid Bob had on the alvey.  So I would say be careful with your own gear.

Saturday will be a good boating day

But take your tablets if you are at all prone to seasickness.

Happy birthday mate, good luck with the fishing.
Ditto what Ryan said on the gear and species.

Cheers

Thu, 2009-02-19 05:55

i went on mills about 3 weeks ago and i didnt get anything.

mates around me got baldies, snapper, black ass and queenies.

just remember that if u dont have your sinker on the floor, you wont catch anything.

Happy Birthday and good luck for the charter

Happy birthday

Thu, 2009-02-19 10:18

My wife paid for a charter for me for a birthday a few years back. It was a good day out. The boat was pretty crowded at the start, but more than 1/2 the people were seasick within five minutes of leaving Hillartys so there ended up being plenty of room.
I caught a few reasonable fish, but the guy who was next to me who brought his own bait caught twice as much as everyone else.
So maybe look at getting some good quality pilchards (or even better some fresh caught bait of your own) to take with you. The squid were baits were ok, but the pilchards looked like they had been refrozen and tended to fall off pretty quickly.
Try and watch where the skipper and deckie put their rods and locate yourself there as they "somehow" tend to end up where the fish are on the sounder.
