One year fishing sumed up in less than 6 minutes

With my boat out of action , too much work and the crap weather I'm going crazy.

So i sat down today and went through some of the video i've taken (and some mates footage ) over the last 12 months.

A years fishing hightights cramed into 6 minutes. I've still got heaps to organize including a few trips to steep point. I hope to sort out a few clips before the end of the year.

Anyway i hope you enjoy my short clip Fishing with friends.

Cheers Grant..

Mon, 2011-09-19 02:41

What was that small bluey purple fish with spots? And one of the flatties in there had some cool barring colours, what kind of flattie is that, they normally that colour?

Fave has gotta be the foul hook hammer, that would felt hell strange. I wonder what you called it as coming up lol.

Western Blue Devil

Mon, 2011-09-19 10:14

H.S. Chan, the small blue fish is a Western Blue Devil,

The flathead is a Tassel Snouted Flathead, Iv'e caught a few of these now, wierd looking fish .

At the end of the vid is a Blue Groper, my friend caught it in 40m straight out from Mindaries.

Yeah mate that hammer head went off, thats a snell rig, one hook was in the corner of its mouth and the other in its peck fin. It was a bit big to mess around with in a small boat, so i cut it off and it swam away to harass someone else. lol

I'm sure you will be on to

I'm sure you will be on to bigger and better with the new boat.

You see surprisingly few western blue devils caught when you compare them to the numbers you see diving.

Not much progress

Mon, 2011-09-19 12:20

Not much progress on the boat Jamie, work is just crazy at the moment but i hope to hop into it soon. I've got all the LED lighting and the new GPS / Sounder should arive late next month.

I've caught a few blue devils now of mindaries, they look awsome and i always thought they would be great in a salt water aquarium.

Most of the time 30m

Fri, 2011-09-23 08:15

Yeah Glenn, most of the time we were in 25m to 30m , about 7km to 10km west of Mindaries. As you can see my boat was only small, so that was about as far as i could venture out without pushing my luck. ( new bigger boat in progress )

The Blue Groper and the biggest snapper were caught 40km out from Mindaries on my friends boat.

Cheers Grant

Sand whiting

Sun, 2011-09-25 11:31

Glenn, all you need to do is head outside the marina and you will start catching them. The further you go out the bigger they seem to get.

If you can see the bottom, just look for sand areas and try there. In the video we were drifting for bottom fish in 31m and came apon a sand patch covered with sand whiting. You can tell what they are by the bites we got as they attacked our larger baits. ( i call them Machine Gun Bites )

As soon as i feel theses type of bites, i mark the spot and change to a small dropper rig with 2 or 3 small hooks. A red bead on the rig can help too. Small pieces of squid are all you need to get them on. You could also use a bait chaser style rig wich you can buy premade.( remember to cut theses in half as you are only alowed 3 hooks per rig )

In deep water when i feel a whiting get hooked i leave it there until i feel another one hook itself too. They tend to shake of the hooks a lot so by getting a couple on you are sure to get one to the top .

In the video we went over the spot a couple times and i had 15 in the esky within 20 minutes. This was just a small patch of sand but it was loaded and if i didnt have some rig's already made and ready to go we probaly would have missed that particular patch of sandies.

Cheers Grant
