A long argument won
I have posted on a few different football associated postings on this site my views about Australian Rules football. They are a minority view I accept that, and my views relate to the breaking of the rules covering the game.
Namely the violent acts committed on the field of play which have been know to cause significant injury to players, my views about this sort of action was supported by an article in the Sundays' paper a week or so ago by the sports writer Carl Langdon who called for the administrators of the sport to grab a bit of courage and start dealing out some strong penalties to those lunch box thugs' who dish out "cowards punches" on the field.
I have long held the belief that these thugs could be charged under the criminal act and face the consequences of their action in the law courts.
Many of my friends have boo-hoo ed the idea and said that these acts are committed on the field of play and are some how exempted from the law.
To days west has the story about the thug who gave a young man on a football field and off the play such a punch in the face that the victim (who is a police officer) such injuries that the young guy is going to need a lot of reconstructive surgery.
The thug has a appointment with the courts in the not to distant future as he has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, he also has an appointment in front of the tribunal next Monday. This guy is not some young rash fool he is reported as being 34 years of age.
Now if he doesn't get 18-24 months jail from the courts then he should consider himself very lucky and he should get life from playing football by the tribunal.
If football is to get some respectability then now is the time to show some guts and determination to clean up the mess they have allowed to fester on their watch.
I await with bated breath to see the out come of this event.
And, I won't comment on any more football posts because if nothing big happens over this then the game is for ever doomed IMO.
