NOR Landbased

G'day everyone,

Semi-experienced fisher but first post! Done a number of charters with Bluejuice/Mills/Port Bouvard Charters, but really keen on getting into some tailor! Went up to Wilbinga off Wanneroo Rd in the 4wd for some late night early morning stuff on the weekend and got into 1 tailor and about a dozen herring. Mate busted off a nice size shovel nosed shark in the dark!

Have done a lot of fishing around the hillarys rock walls using very light gear, with nothing other than a bag of nice sand whiting for the barbie. Looking to get out early saturday morning pending conditions, was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding where/if any, are the gutters off the north wall near the disabled jetty? Or am i best instructed to cast into the SW from AQWA, or from the beach?

If you are keen to try the north wall at Hillarys you

should get out to the light house about 1/2 and hour before sunrise. Throw out some burley and try using either full or half mulies. There have been some tailor around, but that spot is really good for good sized skippy and we have caught small pinkies there on occassions. You need to be there for at least by sunrise as the fishing hots up as just after the sun comes up and can die off very quickly after about an hour.

And welcome to the site.

There are 3 of them from memory. Not that hard to find if you can find Quinns Beach.

I guess maybe I should have been more specific!     What do you mean by tha groin?  Besides what's between our legs!     I'm new to tha fishing jargon.

Quinns is my local normally I go just south from tha lifeguard setup.

The groynes are normally large rock structures

Mon, 2010-01-11 11:57

built out into the ocean. They can differ greatly in size, but are normally a good area to fish as they allow you get out into deeper water and also act as a fish attractant.

The beow picture is of the end of the Cottesloe Groyne.

Cheers

Uncut said he though there was 3 I'm thinking one is just south of tha bottle shop.    My wife and I got married where a few rocks jut out about halfway between tha surf life saving club and tha bottle shop is that area considered a groyne?    If so where is tha 3rd on located?

If you look on Google map on the satellite function

Mon, 2010-01-11 13:20

you will see that the most northern groyne is near Tapping Way, the middle one is betwen Mary and Kemp sts and the most southern one is near Ocean Drive. I have heard that you can catch good Mulloway near the most northern groyne.

I really appreciate that Colin.    I have seen all three thanks to yer google map satellite function.    You have also introduced me to a great way to check out tha coast for other fishing spots.    Much appreciated I may hit one tommorow morning!
