Next fishing purchase?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2009-02-03 11:40
Just wondering what your next fishing purchase is going to be? I've been looking at some PE8 popping sticks and am still undecided as what to get. Thought I'd put the question out there to see what you are thinking of getting next.

Trolling ammo
Headin to Exxy in 7 weeks and am going to get a mirror teaser to try and improve my chances of hooking up to a big mackeral or a sailfish/marlin.
Fishing isn't a matter of life or death, it's much more serious than that!!!

So many things, not enough money
I picked up the latest Daiwa catalogue today. I know where my Big Kev's nation building bonus is going.
Then again I could buy a kayak,
ummmm, but another xzoga rod wouldn't go astray.
And I wouldn;t mind one of the Ryoby Safari's.
I hope my wife doesn't read this.

I've just gone through a very expensive process of purchasing some trolling combo's to go with all the other equipment purchased over the last couple years....
The only gear I "need" (want) is a heavy popper rod. Saying that I would love a Saltiga Z30 or small Torsa with a 10-15kg light jig/bottom overhead rod.

Two incomes
Now that BOTH Sandra and I are working (who say's Crime doesn't pay!

I'll probably look for a new duel speed overhead. Or maybe one with a mid high ratio. Haven't decided which one yet. In the meantime, just picked up some gloves. No more spiked palms!

Good anchor winch for me. I know the money won't cover it but it sure as hell beats pulling it up by hand till tax time. Anybody got a brand that they like.....looking at the Lewmar 700 freefall job

tossing up
whether or not to get an EPIRB. A lot of my fishing is in the exclusion zone, and I rarely head any further than 5 miles offshore outside the zone anyways.
other than that, maybe a PE8 GT stick like you Adam (but I dont think the amount of use will warrant the purchase) or just a whole lot of terminal gear for Exmouth.

Possibly Bairnsback in PNG. Bigger shed for all the gear. I looked at the amount i spent on fishing last year and almost fainted. I better lay low.

Well, there's the Saltiga
Well, there's the Saltiga GT86 but I didn't really like it due to it's length.. more of a land based rod IMO.
You could take a look at the heaviest monster mesh, they look nice but it may be a bit light, rated PE6-8.
The Shimano GT Special is nice and cheap too. Can handle PE10 too if you decide to go heavier.
I've got a bit of a thing for the Shimano Caranx Kaibutsus, but they're not available in Australia though. Kasey might be able to bring one back from Singapore.
