New Motor

Hi all, I have been looking for a new motor to replace the old for a solid 2months now, its in the large HP range, I have read good reports in the US and also Aus on the Verados, i love the Idea of a supercharged outboard, only down fall is the 6cyl motors are a bit heavier, Would you think 30kg will be noticed that much in a 6.8m boat?

No = pick a deal

no - in reality I would say pick whichever colour you like and whatever the best deal is, I ended up with a yammie because the finance is cheaper then my home loan rate, but if i was paying cash I would probably have gone suzuki or honda. I think the reality is that whilst each probably do one thing a little better, all are very good in total. Suzuki seems to win most shootouts i have read though when it comes to a combo of fuel useage across the board from trolling up to cruising and there are a few on here who have racked up some serious hours on them with no problems..

no probs at all

your boat wont even know about that extra 30kg.

i repowered my 1995 johnson 2 stroke 115hp, to a suzuki 4 stroke 115, and yes it is heavier, but the overall performance increase in handling, turning, faster top speed was worth every cent. and it is a heaps better ride as my tub rides better with a bit more weight down the back. best decision i ever made.

30kg is like a big tacklebox

30kg is like a big tacklebox in your boat or a slightly fuller fuel tank. Or a fat person compared to a skinny person. Wont even be able to tell in a 7m boat.

We have a 300 suzuki and a mate has a 250 Verado on the same hull, both really nice motors. His uses alot more fuel than ours though. 120 litres per hour versus 92 lph at WOT, not that you run at WOT much  Ours averages better than 1.3 km/litre over nearly 500 hours. Recent trip with 4 people and all our camping gear etc we did 102 nautical miles for less than 150 litres travelling at between 25 and 30 knots. Both done about the same hours, ours has had a faulty gauge and his broken down and needed a tow and had a recall.

Pick whatever motor (as long as its Suzuki  )you can get serviced locally by who you trust is the biggest thing I reckon.

yammi

pretty happy with my yammi 30 v6 and if weight is a worry they are lighter. my boats weighs 2.6 on the trailer empty but she pushes along at 25 nm at 3500 rpm using around 1.4 km/l if its flat i can get 1.5 km/l and quiet i keep going down the back to start fishing and forget the motor is running but the suzi are pretty much the same on fuel and everything but the yammi price on the finance works out cheaper than the suzi's cheaper price

Good point , pretty sure they do. My bosses 350 Yammi needs premium too . . Weve never put anything but standard ulp in our suzuki 300. Gives us 43 knots flat out.

Smash, only in the 300hp, but they dont have to run the premium, I have run the high octane fules in my boats for many years so thats no problem, I have done a bit of research the last few days on the Verados, the water test yesterday was outstanding, I have never been in a boat with a 4 stroke that has mind blowing hole shot and mid range, we are still talking $$$$ as i am not happy with the Suzuki trade in price on the Verado at this stage, so hoping today is the day i sighn the dotted line on the motor
