Use your air compressor and
Use your air compressor and gently blow out the fan and vents (gently!!!!). They overheat internally very quickly when the vents are partially blocked and without the cooling the CPU will run slower and slower.
If you find it gets worse the longer you are on the computer then this is likely the issue. Mine got so bad it now runs with a fan stand underneath it. Keeps the laptop going for a while longer until it can be replaced.
Otherwise, if it is bloated with junk and the memory and CPU utilisation is always high when not doing much then as Gilly said, it needs a clean. Go to your start bar -> right click -> start the task manager and select the performance tab. If your memory is under 50% and the CPU is idle then it won't be bloated.

Prevention better than cure...
STOP LOOKING AT PORN!
BTW, my computer is slow as lol
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Go to Control Panel then
Go to Control Panel then Internet options
Under Browsing History click on Delete Then click Apply
This will get rid of your browsing history and will help the PC.
Please do this every few months.
As for a virus scan I have used AVAST Free Version for a long time and it picks up and blocks sites
for those off us who dabble in some sites that try to drop viruses on us. There is a scan that can be
performed on the whole PC or individual drives, especially the drive that holds the operating system i.e C: drive.
Hope this helps

Computer cleaning
One of the best Free cleaners is a little program called CCleaner.
Install that and open it up. On the left top it will be in windows mode and have a lot of boxes ticked running down the left. If you use auto password a lot then un-tick this and it will keep all your passwords. I also un-tick "autocomplete form history" as that can save some time on forms.
If like me you run a different browser like Google Chrome or Firefox then also click on the tab Applications. Top left next to the windows tab. Again un-tick savepasswords etc.
On the bottom right is "run Cleaner". Click and off it goes. That cleans up all the shit that has been stored by every web site you have ever visited, removes cookies, saved temporary internet files etc.. Nobody will know what advertisements to target you with now..Lol until you visit your next fishing site.
Every time a program gets updated on your computer little bits of the old program are left behind. On an old computer that adds up to a lot of spare useless shit. To get rid of this click on "registry" Far left below the little broom icon.
Bottom left is scan registry. Click that. First time that might take a while but when finished a button on the bottom right will go blue " fix selected issues" Click. If you are a computer programer you can look through all the stuff there and know what it is but us normal people dont have a clue. A box comes up to save shit so click Yes. then click save in the next box. Finally click "fix selected issues". When done click close on the box in the middle of the screen. Done.
I suggest you then re boot the computer and see if there is any change.
Finally i will just say that computer speeds double every 3-4years and net speeds are increasing (for the rest of the world) so web designers and program designers take advantage of that. Older computers cant. They have set it up so you HAVE to buy new shit. Great business model, for them.
Hope that helps.

+1 for CCleaner, i also use
+1 for CCleaner, i also use bitdefender-by far the best, awesome for adware/spyware/viruses. ive tried avast, mse, avast...all my nerd mates recommended this one.
+1 for giving the laptop a clean out very gently with compressed air. maybe do a defrag on you harddrive/s. clear the cache on your browsers and do a reset also, remembering to remember you passwords if you have them on auto
Good things come to those who bait.
