Swan, Cockburn Sound, Mandurah Estuary, Shark Bay crabs
I have seen this done a number of times by various people at parties. They have been able to tell by taste what crab has come from which fishery by its taste. The area from which the crabs have come from has been verified by those that brought them to the party specifically to see if anyone could pick the difference.
In all cases they have said that crabs from the swan have their own special unique taste that can't be confused with crabs from any where else.
Anyone else able to do this.

I used to work for a fish
I used to work for a fish market where we cooked and sold a lot of crabs - there's definitely a difference between the different fisheries. The Swan river ones were usually much bigger than ones from Shark Bay or Mandurah, but weren't as pretty. The taste is a big difference, as well. The Mandurah ones are the sweetest in my opinion, with shark bay being a very close second. There's nothing wrong with Swan River crabs, the flavour is just more subtle than the others.

Mental blank
Am i right thinking no need for licence - for crab scooping unless using boat to do same or boat to get to spot?
