more HDS sounder shots

For those interested, here are some more sounder shots taken since I've had the unit.

50khz on the left, 200khz on the right. The left is Lowrance's "bottom lock", this can only, for some stupid reason be displayed with a white or blue background.

Something else I don't like is the fact the colours change depending what palette you select. Yellow can be hard on one palette, while red is hard on another. What is that happy little camper sitting alone on the right of the bottom lock?

Anyone care to interpret these two?

Thu, 2010-11-18 11:18

anyone run these units in 100-400m of water?

any issues reading the bottom?

Ive got a hds7 i use purely as a gps, however am thinking of adding the transducer to better read deeper water.

Thanks

Thu, 2010-11-18 12:24

you sensitivity seems to be a tad low goes from 80 odd in the first pic in 18m to 17 in the 40m pics not that I am an expert waiting to get the boat back with my 10m and my 7 so I can get out there and get just as confused as you.

Have you saved off some of your sounderf iles and run them through the sonar log viewer and played with the settings ie you can adjust your sensitivity coulourline etc ect and see what difference to the pic it makes.

There is some bennett dvd floating around that go through the HDS sounder

I have the same problem but when I just split the screens to 200khz and 50, I find I need to go int the pallete and change it to get them the same

there's two different types

Thu, 2010-11-18 21:25

there's two different types of sensitivity, manual and auto. When in auto you can make fine tune adjustments, hence the lower %. To get the same reading in manual you need to set a high %. Gain is not one of the units problems, it just lacks some features that really should be standard.

I also ran a few sounder logs through the Sonar Viewer but it seemed like a sh*thouse program, lacking features and options.

As for after market help, I went back to Challenge Marine and got some useful info from the boys there but there is a massive lack of info/help that I think should come with the unit. I'd love to run this and a 585 side by side to compare as I'm still not sure I've made the right call.

I just got out today to test

Mon, 2010-11-29 19:52

I just got out today to test out my new setup hds 10m and a 7.  Holds bottom great at speed pics look great, already seen some nice arches (didn't have sd card in a forgot to log it) was only out in 20-25 but looks promising.  The 50Khz pics don't impress me that much (it just appears to be slow compared to 200) and I don't like the fact the definition dissapears at speed but the 200khz looks impressive).

The 10 is great (could have gotten away with just the 10) sounding out then marking lumps was able to drive straight back over the top much easier then before.

Only went out to test gear did have a couple of laser pro's trolling out the back while having a play but nothing to report back.  Just got ot get out there for a real fishing day now.
