Lowrance tm260 is it worth it

Hey guys just wondering if anyone on hear is running a tm260 on a hds. I have the 585 tm260 but was wondering if anyone could hit bottom in 300 plus mtrs at more the 2/3 knts as my 585 won't. I'm only asking because my hds 9 with its shit standard 50/200 reads bottom upto 230/250 with no adjusting. Any info would be appreciated as I would like to look for ground while towing skirts and is abit beyond the 585 cheers

hds

I had one on my last boat and it would hit 350m at 8 knots on a calm day. The 1kw was a huge improvement over the 600.

 You'll find the reason why

You'll find the reason why your furuno wont read the bottom is most likely the settings your running

the same transducer on a different unit should see similar results i would think

I can get it to read fine

Sat, 2014-09-27 13:14

I can get it to read fine mate just not at any more than 3 knts. Was hoping the lowrance might read a bit beta at speed then the 585. Was hoping anyway don't wont to fork out for a new sounder as ill be selling this boat in the near future

M260

I run a M260 wet box on a 585 and can get 500m at trolling speed. Does get a fair bit of clutter doing it tho.
Could be your settings or tranducer placement affecting it.

I would be very suprized if

I would be very suprized if you would get better results from a lowrance, than you get from you 585 with tm260, I agree with everyone else maybe look at tranny placement/position and that your using your unit properly, or to the best of its ability.

 Yeh clutter is the issue

Sat, 2014-09-27 21:24

Yeh clutter is the issue have played with the settings heaps and it seems all or nothing. 200 doesn't clutter up but wont read soon as I flick to 50 in any depth it don't wanna play any more just fills up with interference. Ovesly in those depths 300 plus the tvg is on high and the gain wound up. Any ideas for setting to help be much appreciated cheers

I fully agree with Robert and I run a commercial Furuno unit in the Super Deep depths and I still dont search faster than 3-4 knots!

As I tell ppl in my shop ...... forget about "what depth you can get"  its  "what depth can you get/hold/read/identify ground/find fish etc " ..... thats the key

Furuno all the way with me!!!

check the transducer

check the transducer location, depth, angle....more than likely that is the issue, not the Furuno.

I have hit 434m with good

I have hit 404m with good detail on a HDS8 with 1kw through hull at 5 knots see here, last pic.

Mind you I have since gone to a 587 Furuno as it is easier to operate when changing the depth range manually. I still havent managed to get out really deep to compare. I now have two cables installed and I can switch the trannys between units as required.

Cruise control what about if you chose bottom lock on the HDS instead of manual range selection?

Hey Bunny

I tried that but cant remember why I didnt like it. maybe I couldnt get enough of a range ? I did actually work out a better way on a mates Lowrance which enabled me to move the zoom lines in the split screen. seemed to work Ok but havent tried it since.
