 OK so a little research

Fri, 2015-03-13 23:27

OK so a little research reading tells me these are weakish readings, they need a yellow in them to make them a strong reading. purely because my colour line is a little low.

Sorry Gilly but these type of sounders

Wed, 2015-03-18 23:00

just feed you bullshit..the ups and downs you see all over the screen is more than likley your boat going up and down with the waves.

Is that 40m..thats pushing its capabilities Haha. I have one on my glass boat [only used as GPS ] and an elite 5 on my tinnie which never stops telling me lies lol

Hmm, I reckon Whiting or bait

Thu, 2015-03-19 07:02

Whiting often show up as thin squiggly lines on lowrance/simrad close to the bottom.  I use the white color palette on the simrad - check out randall's pic 1 http://fishwrecked.com/forum/simrad-sounder-shots-whiting-and-wreck and often whiting will look like the thin blue/green squiggly lines close to the bottom.

Bait schools will often 'rise' up off the bottom like in picture two, however I have seen tailor school up like that in the swan.

Without seeing the sensitivity or being there on the day its a bit hard to tell. It also could be elongation, where an object in the sounder beam stays relatively in the same spot, thus the fish 'show' or arch elongates across the screen.  Were you at anchor with burley out or on the drift?  You can test elongation with a burley bucket off the back of the boat on a rope either on the drift or at anchor.  This is because the sounder thinks you are moving, but the burley bucket is static to the boat due to the rope so it will show as a blob that elongates across the width of the screen

 Second pic definitely fish

Thu, 2015-03-19 07:36

Second pic definitely fish they were chasing my jigs to the surface this was last Friday the calmest conditions I've seen in Perth for a long long time next to no drift at all. First pic is toothy critters chasing bait schools I had two hookups for two bust off / bite offs the bait school was busting on the surface and hugging the bottom these fish were at the rear of the school. Have tried most of the other pallets but keep coming back to this setting.

I think sensitivity was on auto +1 can't remember now.

How far off the bottom are you jigging?

Thu, 2015-03-19 08:01

Is this possibly your jig on the lift and wind with a bit of flutter at ~10mts off the bottom?

Thu, 2015-03-19 09:10

Was jigging from the bottom probably coming up 10-20m of the bottom noticed fish chasing jig dropped jigged dropped jigged dropped jigged spat the dummy kicked the dog sulked in the corner went home

Rob partly has it right - right about the croc ;-)

But can't you guys see the mermaid to the right of the croc?? She's swimming away from the croc. She's naked and swimming upside down looking up at Gilly thinking "if only he knew what he is missing out on. all he has to do is catch me a fish and I will forever be in his debt and do anything to repay him"

A little bit of training and you guys would see how much info you miss on your sounder......

Had same screen shots few weels back

Thu, 2015-03-19 18:57

In around 10m of water and then again at 18m depth all simmilar and could not work out what it was. After my rigs kept coming back empty I went light gear and ended up

hitting whiting after whiting once they went off the bite the screen also changed.

Next time round I'm sending the camera down.

If you were fishing baits

Fri, 2015-03-20 06:05

Then pic #1 could conceivably be NW Blowies, but I doubt they would it a jig and bite it off? I have definately got sharks over whiting ground, but I havent been bitten off yet around the back of Garden Island on 40lbs leader so im kinda stumped..
