Lowrance LCX 27c 1kw transducer?

 Hi all,

Looking sounder upgrade options but before committing, interested if anyone knows if the Lowrance LCX 27 can take a 1kw transducer?

i have tried the operating manual and the Internet but I can't seem to find if it can take 1kw or if it is limited to 600w. I have two LCX27 units currently that are linked and if I can up the power of the tranny and get some better reading at depth then I will be happy with keeping the current units.

has anyone got these units, or heard of, with a 1kw?

cheers

I have a LCX37c and was looking at the same thing. Was really hard to find the actual output but from memory that was 600w

I think you can still take

I think you can still take advantage of the improved rx sensitivity of the better transducers, even if you can't run them at full power.

maybe but I doubt the cost

maybe but I doubt the cost would be worth the small (if any) advantage. I have the LCX37 side by side with a FCV600 and even though the Furuno is 300W it has at least as good usability.

There may be an advantage in deeper water but I rarely go over 60 meters and theres no advantage at all.

I wouldn't bother putting a 1kW tranny on a 600W unit unless I got one cheap off a mate, or had one lying around for whatever reason.

It's bound to be better than a P68, but they sure do cost a lot more.

According to the box that the sounder comes in; "powerful transmit power up to 8,000 watts peak-to-peak (1,000 watts RMS), depending on transducer

utilized.  See bottom of box for transducer frequency/transmit power relationships."

Bottom of box states:

TRANSDUCER FREQUENCY AND SONAR OUTPUT POWER RELATIONSHIPS:

Dual frequency 50/200 kHz

50 kHz = 1,000 watts RMS, or 8,000  watts peak -to-peak power.

200kHz = 500 watts RMS, or 4,000 watts Peak-to-peak power.

Cone Angles 50kHz = 37 deg.,200 kHz = 12deg.

Single frequency 200 kHz:

200 kHz = 375watts RMS or 3,000 watts Peak-to-peak power.

Cone Angle: 200 kHz = 21 deg.

PS - I have the dual frequency 50/200 and 200kHz is more than adequate up to 150 metres.  Good fish echoes and ground return excellent at speed.

The 50 kHz gives almost too much information at this depth.  Haven't been deeper to test.

The 50/200 definitely puts fish in the box at these depths and back to the beach.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

 Thanks all for the input.

yes I do get an ok return in 40 metres or so at decent speed but not as good as I would like and also not as good as a mates nav man 4500 (which I would expect to at least match?). At 40 metres+, I get a clearer picture from the 50khz at slower speed?

maybe it is the sensitivity, ping speed, or chart speed etc that isn't quite set right so maybe need to play around with this a bit more.

Till, what is the rx sensitivity? Bt rob may have answered this in that it would benefit in deeper water?

Brine, thanks for the details on the box. Am I correct in my interpretation that it could use the power of a 1 kw in deeper water for the 50khz but it would be wasted on the 200khz?

cheers

I think your interpretation is correct. My transducer is a HS-50/200-DX now obsolete but available on ebay. The replacement transducer is a HST-DFSBL50/200 blue connector for HDS models , but will apparently fit LCX models but the temp may not register ( sounder works). Is your transducer a dual frequency TM.

On the clearer picture front turn off auto depth range and set upper and lower limits for good compression and pixel count ,once you have found some likely ground in split screen auto depth.

Rick Huckstepp has written an idiot manual which is dedicated to lcx vintage sounders .Good read for 15 bucks.Depth sounder secrets.
