Looking for some advice
Hey guys,
Im new to the forum and the fishing over here. I was wondering if anyone would be able to offer a little advice or perhaps show me the ropes?
I moved to Perth 9 weeks ago now from sunny Scotland. Back home I fly fished for Trout and Salmon on the local river. I been out on the Swan a few times chasing the Flatties and Bream on lures with some success but it would be great to consistently catch (instead of 1 or 2 fish in a 5 hour session). I have the basic gear 2-4kg rod, 2500 reel, 4kg braid and a box of lures, I also have my 5wt and some fly gear.
Could anyone list their most successful lures (how to/when to fish them), give me a few spots to try ( I'm in Scarborough and can't drive yet) and when the best times to fish are?
Any help would be really appreciated.

here that would invite you on a shore bash.
Consistancy just takes time and experience as you would know. But leaving bait aside ive been very sucessfully with ecogear sx40's in black and gold on the surface to a meter or so then blades or vibes on the pilons in various yacht clubs. There loads of great gear out atm.
The harder the fish are, lower your leaders down to 6lb and 4lb main. or even lower
Early mornings are good as well as eveings and its naturally pretty tough on the 12oclock shut down but theres still fish to be had.
Low rainfall alows fish up the rivers and heavy rains push fish down stream. Ascot is a pretty consistant area. loads of shore to fish there.
See brenz at the fishing shop. He's right in the bream scene any very helpful, also oceanside tackle or luke at tackle HQ

I've done fairly well on the flatties over the last 2years in the swan. Any place with nice sand flats or drop off's seem to work well. The first year I had a lot of luck using the prawnstar lures, but last year I got hooked on using the small vibe lures - they killed it!
I went to my normal spots that produce only a 2 weeks ago and didn't even get a touch - so maybe it's a little early for the flatties. But with the weather warming up i'll keep trying.
As for spots and times, I fish around point walter towards freo, however check out google maps and you might be able to find some nice sand flats closer to you. I don't really worry about the tides as I ussually go in the morning which is generally low tide. But i think high tide might be the best time.

I just moved to perth myself from even sunnier england! ha, if you ever fancy a blast just give me a shout mate. Im based not far from you in Wembley. Ive had a bit of luck at narrows for tailor and a few flattys near the causeway.

Liam causeway is good, but slightly further up towards burswood has a good name for itself, like opposite the golf course so maybe 10-15 minute walk from the car park at the casino, im always up for it!
I went down the narrows for an hour last night, lost my favourite lure but bashed a decent sized tailor.
you shoudl think about canning bridge sometime soon ive heard good things, only been once but picked up a nice tailor there

First thing... Welcome to Perth... There is a few guys that fish the flats in shelley on the high tide using fly gear. They use tiny prawn like flys(I know bugger all about fly fishing) and work them over where there is grass right up to the water line. when the tide is high enough Bream come up to eat the small mussel's that grow in the bottom of the grass. I use hardbodys mainly and cast paralel to the shore line and have caught plenty of fish... but they catch more- I'm gonna have to learn how fish a fly! Hope it helps. I only fly fish, and have found that there's only a couple of shops with fly fishing gear in Perth.
There's FlyWorld in Bayswater www.flyworld.com.au
And Bluewater Tackle in Melville.
There's also a Saltwater flyfishing club: www.saltwaterflyrodders.com.au that's worthwhile joining if you wish to pursue flyfishing here.
