Long weekend at Yanchep
Hi Everyone,
The regular public holiday fishing trip is approaching and I was planning on heading to Yanchep on Monday.
Ive used the search function above for recent catches but havent found much.
Planning on heading there for 7am (high tide, 10kt easterly) with a 6ft and 9ft spinning gear chucking around sps, hbs and metals.
Ive never been before so any tips would be good besides the obvious regarding tides and wading out onto the reef.
Can I expect to catch anything of decent size? Ive still yet to break my salmon/sambo/kg cherry.
Is there any chance of a feed of squid?
Oh, also - Is there much weed up there at the moment?
Thanks if you can answer any of these questions, Its just that I still feel like a noob, because as much as I love fishing and head out fishing, I cant catch jack all despite trying quite hard.
Cheers,
Jay

Yanchep
Jay, I would say there would be quite a bit of weed around as there has been a fair swell running this week. I don't fish off the beach, but after reading todays paper, some good tailor were caught a little further north of Two Rocks. Good luck!

I wouldn't go on the reef
I wouldn't go on the reef with the swell being over 2m and high tide.
Most people tend to cast towards where the reef ends from the beach (right hand side)

Park at the lagoon and walk
Park at the lagoon and walk south, chuck poppers or metals early then target big yellowfin whiting as the sun gets up. Little bits of prawn on a size 8-10 suicide will do the trick or blue sardines on a gang of small tarpons to pick up nice skippy as well.

i headed to the tackle store
i headed to the tackle store today and purchased some richter plugs.
i didnt really know the lure weight restrictions of the rod i have just purchased, which is a starlostick shorespin 9ft, to a max of 35 grams.
the plugs i got were 40 grams.
i was wondering if i run a risk of damaging my rod with 5g over. any thoughts?

Be all right 40g
That would be a safe weight, And i dont think 5g would hurt the rod
By the way nice rod
