Locations to buy bait

Now this is something that always gets me stumped in the worst of times.

Something that I always wish I knew when I needed.

Where to buy baits, like what time is this place open and where are they. Not tackle stores but deli's servos, whether they sell tackle as well... Because I bet most people here have missed out on buying bait the day before, or if spare of the moment tried to head for a flick, but either cant find what you need because you dont know who sells them or they are out of stock on what you're after.

I'll start;

Caltex Servo on canning HWY heading to freo towards traffic bridges on the right sells prawns and mulies (upto 2kg block) and some other baits i cant remember and they're open 24hrs.

North Mole Kiosk has baits.. drive by all the time and never noticed they sell em.

Gull servo south of the swan river causeway on a street between albany hwy and shepperton rd just north of skippers caryards and opposite subaru sells river prawns, mulies (6 mulies - 1kg) and some other i dont remember. open 24hrs

Woodmans Point boat ramp kiosk has baits and various tackle.

BP servo, heading towards freo on canning hwy just after the 2nd traffic bridge on your left has baits and to have 2kg mulies. open 24hrs

**Just thought this thread WILL come in handy, as i know it'd help me to know some more. So many times i get stuck driving around for ages looking for bags of mulies, glowlights etc as not all servos sell it or have stock. As everyone knows, sometimes fishing is just spare of the moment or the weather gives in to ya for once.**

So please share any knowledge you may have about this topic as i know it'd help alot of fisho's out there. Good to have this on hand with a click of the search button.

Cheers in advance.

Then of course there's the servo and supermarket either side of the lights where you come off Orrong Road westbound onto Gt. Eastern Highway.  Good range of bait and tackle at both stores, and handy to river and Narrows, etc.  Pretty sure they're both 24 hrs.

Mulies?

Thu, 2010-03-04 17:33

Always hard to find decent mulies. I prefer the 'EarlyBird' brand - but anyone else have a recommendation on where to get some nice, fat, loosely packed ones?

i agree buschy

last few blocks of mulies  i've had , have turned to mush as soon as defrosted. always sat in a frozen soup of scales . sick to death of it.

burley only.

i just buy lunds squid now for bait.

There is one deli on Grantham St in Wembley that sells bait. For me, its not in too bad a location if I'm heading to floreat drain for a fish.

The deli @ The end of my street

Tue, 2010-03-16 00:53

I am laughing. The deli at the end of my street which is open pretty early and closes late 7 days a week has quite a decent stock of bait and a pretty good selection mostly consisting of Mako Tackle. I went to a few tackle shops the other day looking for a burley cage, but everyone seemed to be out. On my way home I saw the sign that said "Bait & Tackle" and thought I would give it a crack and hit jackpot. Not sure what the deli is called, but its in Balcatta on the corner of Waneroo Road and Sylvia street, just past Tuart Hill McDonalds heading north. I am set!

Servo "pilchards" are often crud

Tue, 2010-03-16 07:03

quiet often the bait at servos is imported rubbish.....IMHO only good for berley

they tend to be the nicely packed ones....heads all lined up. and more greasy compared to local mulies....fish turn their nose up at them in my experience

sure they might work for wrasse...but for me local bait or local fish.....

buy a good block from a tackle shop and put it in the freezer wrapped in newspaper for when you need it....they dont take up that much room

anyway....handy thread
