Kayak Help!!
Well the Missus has given me the green light on getting my first Kayak.....she is calling a Christman present from her to me... how that works i dont know!!
But im quite new to the kayak environment (Eventho ive used them a fair bit in the past) but ive never bought one.
So what im chasing is some guidence on possible kayaks to buy.
Basically i want to be able to use it for all sorts of fishing... cockburn sound, Ocean fishing down south, river fishing, and trout fishing
The things ive seen i would like to have is
1. the peddle wings for movement.
2. atleast 2 storage compartments.
3. single seat
4. Sounder, and possibly GPS depending on price.
5. atleast 2 rod holders.
Budget, well i dont really have one, but i would like to keep it under $2,500.
i will also be buying a 2nd one aswell, as the missus says she wants one as well, altho i see my mates getting more use!!
So if anyone can point me in the right direction and has some suggestions would be appreciated..

Great to see more and more people getting into Kayak Fishing!
Seeing as tho you are keen on the pedal system, or Mirage Drive as it is known means you are looking at the Hobie Kayaks.
for a great yak for ocean, river and a bit of lake and stream fishing, the best kayaks for you would probably be the Revolution or the Outback. Both are excellent kayaks, and have there own strong points.
The Outback is one of the most stable and maneouverable of the Hobie Kayaks. It excelles in tight spaces, but is also very stable and seaworthy. It is quite a bit shorter than the Revolution, and is more designed for carting lots of gear, heavier anglers, and is the SUV of the Hobie range.
The Revolution is a little longer and sleeker than the Outback, and trades of a bit of stability and maneouverability for speed and ocean prowess. These are still very stable, and a good all-rounder for those looking to spend time in both the ocean and rivers.

You're going to have to stretch your budget to get that new and second hand Hobies are rarer than rocking horse shit. Pretty sure the best prices on hobies, the only yaks with the pedal option are priced around;

It really comes down to personal preferance. The pedal kayaks are a bit more expensive that the paddle yaks. There are many varieties of paddle kayaks around the traps, and many of the guys i fish with use paddles not pedals. As i said, each to there own, there are pro's and cons for each, so relly it's best you jump on some Kayak forums, and read all the info about the place, have a few test paddles/pedals, and see what best suits you and your budget.
Malibu Kayaks have a strong following in Perth, and a lot of guys i fish with use them. for that side of it, have a look at there site, and contact Shawn at Fishyak for more info, and a test paddle.
