Went to Cairns the other day and met up with Craig who was to take me Jungle fishing in the Mulgrave River South of Cairns,,,our target was to be Sooty Grunter (black & grunt out of water ) and the wiley Jungle Perch (JP'S)
Started of using an SX48 for no joy until Craig strapped on one of his go to lures (gold SX40) then i caught a heap of Sooties,,the Jungle Perch laid low all day though.
Its a very scenic part of the country and the fish were a bonus (all released)

Craig's never seen Crocs in the upper Mulgrave,,its fresh water etc.
He does kayak trips further North (Daintree River) but does not take guests up there.

Just before i took the last
Just before i took the last photo two ladys on horses walked across the river in the back ground, great country for the horse riding crowd,,Craig was up alittle creek to the left on foot,,,he lost a large jungle perch in a deep hole(the only JP he saw all day)
Back at the launch someone had a business where you float down the river on tubes,,a great way to relax and enjoy the country,,during the 4-5 km paddle upstream we saw nobody else fishing,,just sugar cane farmers harvesting.
